I only had one speeding ticket. I went to court, met with the town prosecutor, got it lowered to a parking ticket and just paid a fine. That's it. No big deal and no points.

It's Ohio... the cop probably won't show up anyway unless you plead not guilty and take it to a hearing.

I got one in Middleburg Hts. 2 years ago MTAW. I was going 86 in a 60 on I-71. I had to go to court for it. It took a good hour to get to my name. I just stood up in front of the judge and plead no contest. He gave me a $106 fine.

No contest and guilty are pretty much one and the same, but if there is other things that can haunt you with the charge... Like...

I always go to court - and 9 times outta 10 they don't show up. As for night court instead of day and wait till the 15th day to file for a court appearance (you have 15 days from the day of the ticket being issued). That way, you may end up getting a court date a year after the ticket was issued and it's void.

Unless he didn't use one? A lot of police officers (here, at least) are trained to be able to determine speed roughly visually. That can be used in court. Just a thought. More than likely, however, he did use radar.

My cop has always shown and I've had State Troopers before

I've never had my court fees/fine be more then my original ticket. It's always lower.

Most people just pay it off because after court fees, it's not worth it. However, a cop is most likely NOT going to show up at court for that. It's not something they really care about. Unless it's a smaller town, then they might go. If cop doesn't show, nothing happens.

A lawyer will be going in my place next Wednesday. I had to fight it otherwise I would've been screwed out of a shitload of money and a lot of points on my license. Too many miles over the limit.

I'd just plead NC and explain if the Judge asks you to. But even if the cop WAS wrong, trying to tell/convince a Judge that a cop was lying isn't the best idea, lol.

And most cops have the video camera mounted up by their rearview mirror, which starts recording once they flip their lights on, and it has the time printed on it. So if it really came down to disputing the time - whatever was on that video/the time in the car, would be what they'd go by.

Here they assign you a court room and you wait outside in the hallway (they do have chairs) until you're called in. They only have like one large court room there... with the stupid wooden seats and all. So, most stuff is done in these smaller rooms.

The cop said I was going 48 in a 35mph zone. No way I was going over 40. Plus the time on the ticket is off by 12 fucking minutes!

MTAW - what speed did he put and what speed do you feel you were doing?

I've been to court for speeding tickets, and I've seen others there [you all sit in the courtroom and wait your turn atleast where I am]

Lets say the speed limit was 65, the cop wrote 79 and YOU say you were going 73.. the Judges [I've seen em do this maaany times] will be like okay, point is, you were STILL speeding soooo oh well. So if you admit to going over the speed limit - the Judge...

You go to court. They call your name and you go up and the officer goes up. They ask how you plead, state what you're charged with. You plead whatever you want and then you're told your fines/points/judgement.

The wait for your turn is what takes up most of the time.

How long depends on how many other ticketed shmoes are in there with you and when your name gets called

You go, you sit beside the lesser people, you get your name called and you go up front to plead your case, etc.

I got a ticket today & totally dispute the speed the cop said I was going. Plus he has some other info worng on the ticket.
