Considering how sick she was, I'm surprised she held on for this long. She was great on the show. Long, fufilled life achieved.

She was a very funny woman. I'm glad she's out of misery now...dementia is a horrible thing to watch someone go through.

She was suffering for a good while. I remember an interview with the other Golden Girls that they said she diddn't know who they were when they went to visit. So sad. I'm at least glad that her suffering is over. She was brilliant as Sophia!

"Golden Girl" Estelle Getty has gone to the big lanai in the sky and died at the age of 84.

Estelle passed away at 5:35 AM this morning at her L.A. home surrounded by her family and caregivers. Getty had been suffering for years with Lewy Body Dementia.

Although only a year older than Bea Arthur, Estelle is best known for playing her wise-cracking Sicilian mother Sophia Petrillo on "Golden Girls."

Getty is survived by her two adult sons
