I knew Kyle from the film "Dune". I even own the soundtrack. That film is 24 years old now. It was the year my brother died (dx'd w/ cancer in '79, multiple treatments & bone marrow transplants, etc.) & my dad was diagnosed with cancer so it was a memorable year.

Well, the name Colm is another variant so I think the names in these cases are spelled phonetically.

I'd pronounce it cal-lum. I'm pretty sure it's a Scots-Gaelic variant of the name Columba.
