Sure they gave up a 4th round pick for his rights, but by signing him on a 1 year contract, if they're out of it by the trade deadline (unlikely), they can flip him to a contender for at worst a 3rd round pick (or more likely, a 2nd).

edit: Ooops, now that Malone is signed, the 4th is now a 3rd... but whatever, it'll most likely be a wash.

The Reebok 2008 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game [can we get an acronym here please?] was held this weekend in TX benefitting the Mike Modano Foundation and the Little Heroes Foundation. Some Dallas located basketball players were there. the Dallas soccer team goalie was there, a Cowboy or two as well as Mike Modano and Brenden Morrow.

Brylin is at a standstill. If neither the team nor Brylin elect to not pick up the option year [Brylin wants to play but wants a 2+yr contract] by noon tomorrow, he'll become an UFA.

Lou says negotiations with Pando and the 9th defensemen who will be UFAs tomorrow are "status quo".
