This girl I graduated with has a myspace page plus each one of her kids have their own including her 3 year old son. It's kinda silly for someone that young to have one. Obviously he doesn't do anything with it, it's all her but still. Her twins are 7 and they manage their own pages. I just hear too many things about myspaces and kids and won't let mine have one. I have parental controls on my internet anyways so they can only go to places like webkinz, disney, and nickelodeon.

7 year olds managing their own myspaces?
I think anyone younger than like 15 is too young. I know a couple people who have pages for their babies/toddlers
and that's not too bad but 7 year olds should not be managing their own pages.

That's my thought too. My son has asked me if he could have one before but I told him no. Actually what he did was wait till he was at my mom's house
for the weekend and asked her to help him make one. She said she'd have to ask me first and he tried to be slick and tell her I already said yes. She
didn't believe him and called me, he begged her to hang up. I flat out said no, and I could hear him in the background saying "i told you not to call
her'

TashaNoNo wrote: That I don't agree with. The kids in my daughter's high school use it as a huge way to keep in touch with each other and activities. My
daughter's only friends are people she knows though.....as in people in her school, her old school, or her swim team. We've also had discussions about
keeping safe and whatnot and keeping her myspace private. It's really up to parents to educate their children so they can take advantage of things like
myspace safely. Too many parents are so clueless about this stuff and just ignore it. They're doing their kids no favors.

I'm sorry, I just think that kids are stupid and anyone under 18 is a kid. They can't be trusted to make good decisions.

See I was think maybe 16 years old but only if I make the password. We only have one computer in the house so I know everything that gets looked at on it and
that's how I'm planning on keeping it.

I think its more a maturity level than age thing. I know twelve year olds who could use it more responsibly that some of the twenty year olds I hang out with.

TashaNoNo wrote: Wow, that's just a completely uninformed opinion. What are you basing this on? Each kid is different. I figure if I can trust my "kid" with a
car and a job a myspace is no big deal. Part of the problem is that too many adults do treat teens as though they're kids. They still have things to learn,
but they're not kids either. If you treat them as kids guess what......they'll likely act as kids. The job of a parent is to educate and teach so that
by the time they hit 18 they're prepared for life. Keeping life from them....including things like myspace....does them no favors.

LMAO. I was as mature at 15 as I am now. I was a good kid and very sensible, and I HATED people who treated me like a stupid kid. Not all kids are complete
idiots.

MySpace is 14 and up. That's one more year than is required by COPPA. Even saying that parents don't know all the safety guides that are available for
them. And a lot of parents don't ask their kids about it.
In any case, I would report those profiles. |

I think 16 is okay, but I don't think I want my kids to have myspaces if it's still popular in the future.
