And now it looks like Michelle Obama is going to be treated like Hillary was when Bill ran for President.
Why aren't women allowed to be smart, strong and decisive without it being an issue?

I don't like Hillary Clinton at all, but I firmly believe she would have been treated better if she had been a running for President.

I don't see Hillary as strong. She depended on men way to heavily to advance her career. And they all screwed her over. Bill, Mark, Harold, Terrie,
Howard...

Because that defies traditional gender roles that have been in place since the beginning of time. When women start becoming more independent and just as
competent as men in every area, said men become intimidated. Suddenly, the field just got way bigger.

Cause the world is still dominated by men and men are douchebags.
Plus stupid chicks (as evidenced on JJB) don't like smart chicks. |

People cling VERY strongly to societal gender roles. Defy them in the tiniest way and you've got trouble.

There is a fine line between being a strong woman and being a bitch. The media and competition is going to do everything in their power to trash Obama and
his wife just like all the media and Democrats are doing everything they can to trash McCain and his wife. No one is exempt. Hate works both ways. In
politics, people are cranky 2 year olds throwing temper tantrums.

So where's the line for men? Come on now. No one accuses a man of being a too strong. |

The tired argument that Hillary is not a strong woman or a feminist because she has stayed with a cheating husband is repulsive. Strong women are not exempt
from human feelings and perhaps she loves him and wants to hold her marriage together. Also, I hate to break it to those who still believe that all political
marriages are real, but -- some of them are political!
Find me an honest politician -- find one. If Hillary had left Bill and had run the media would still tear her to shreds. |

Lauriestar wrote: true but this applies to women as well. Many women have issues with strong women in general and you can see this with your catty female co-workers or classmates who see one woman's achievement is another one's misery. I love this Madeline Albright's quote: "there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women." you see this in every aspect of life. When a woman's image becomes too strong and she achieves the level where women never went before, she become a
polarizing figure and is subjected to all kind of scrutinies from her role as a woman (wife, mother, sister, daughter) to her job aspects (CEO, President,
etc).

What's so strong about a decent looking, college educated woman who stays with a husband that continually cheats on her? She can try and sell her self as strong but in the back of everyone's minds (men and women) there is always going to be the specter of Bill Clinton not being able to keep his penis in his pants and Hillary allowing it. Surprise surprise. Look who it is with their outdated, backwards, illogical musings. |

There is a fine line between being a strong woman and being a bitch. Hmm, so...where's the connection here, between these two qualities? Maybe "There is a fine line between being argumentative/confrontational/demanding etc. and being a bitch" might make sense. But really, if one is a strong woman they are in strong danger of crossing a line into bitchdom? It really says something about one's views of strong women if a strong woman needs to watch herself so much to prevent the easy slide into being a terrible person! |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Rodham_Clinton_awards_and_honors I want to see everyone here who said she's weak whether they have done half of what this woman does: -have you ever been presenting and articulating your ideas in front of millions of people from all level and they bought your ideas, believe in it, and support you? - have you ever stood toe to toe in a political race against men and got elected into an important position that can make differences into your community? - did you graduate with honor from school, continue to better yourself with education, and is elected as the commencement speaker due to your achievement? Do you do thesis and researches that make differences to the general public? - Have you ever had all kind of people ridiculing and calling you all kind of names and you continue strong with your beliefs and never let them to intimidate you? - Have you ever got international awards for the work that you have done in supporting the world causes such as Chernobyl victims? - Have you ever stood in front of United Nation, delivering passionate speech that woman's right is human right in front of the world leaders? |

A woman forgives a man who cheated, it speaks poorly for the woman. She's not strong enough. Man gets off with a social slap on the wrist, if that.
A woman cheats and a man takes her back, does the same apply? Of course not. It's all on the whore and the man is the put upon, sympathetic victim. |

Politicians all feed off of each other to pull themselves up. Most politicians happen to be men, so of course Hillary has depended on men to help advance her
career.
