Sometimes names that are ethnic or have cultural differences are just assumed to be "ghetto" because people aren't familiar with them. That's where the issue is. And people of all races make those mistakes. My name has no cultural meaning whatsoever but I can't tell you how many people assume I'm Jamaican because of my name.

I used to get teased for my name, and when I was little I told my mom I wanted to get it changed to Rebecca or something. Seriously, my name (Nakia) isn't even hard to pronounce and I used to get called all kinds of dumb shit. I wanted to change my name because I was always mad I could never get the pencils and keychains with my name on them.
