I kinda agree. It's not an obligation. You can't be a horrible server and then expect a good tip.

Well, technically, it's not a LAW that you have to tip so you could say you're not "obligated". I think it's pretty darn rude though.

I don't think that very many people DO think like that, because it's extremely rare that somebody doesn't leave a tip at all.

Since I know how nice it is to get tips, I always tip. And simply put youre an asshole if you think of it like your co worker said.
i get people who i do a lot for them and im really nice and all that stuff and not a tip, sometimes not even a thank you or anything |

The person who said that is an idiot. Tipping is part of going out to eat, not having to cook and have someone serve you. If you don't want to tip, cook
your own food in your own kitchen. Now if the service is horrible that's different, but tipping, in general, is part of the restaurant experience. If you
don't like it, don't go out.
