It sounds horrible but she really has gained a lot of weight, is it my sisterly duty to tell her?

I'm sure she knows and is sad.

I think it is (your sisterly duty). How close are you and her?

If its getting to the point where it effects her health/life, then YES say something. If its a little pudge, I wouldnt worry about it.

ask her if she's pregnant, and then put your hand around your stomach area. Maybe she will get the hint.

Maybe you could try to talk about it indirectly and see if she brings it up first.

If it's unhealthily so, tell her you're concerned. If it's not, let it go. My sisters are super thin, and I'm not as small as them- if they
told me I was fat, I would certainly be crushed.

It's not an unhealthy amount. For some reason it's all in her stomach though. I've had two people ask me if she was pregnant.
We're really close, it's just a hard thing to bring up to someone. And I'm smaller than her and I can see that making her even more offended. |

And I'm smaller than her and I can see that making her even more offended. So the smart thing to do would be to tell her then! I'm sure she'll burn a lot of calories while crying. |

If it's not an unhealthy amount I don't see any point in bringing it up. Most likely all you'll end up doing is upsetting her.

What the hell? Why would you tell her? What is that going to do? It's her body, I'm sure she knows, especially by the clothes she wears.
If you want to help her, suggest that the two of you go for a run or cook some healthy food together. When I was fat, whenever anyone said to me, "Wow, you sure have gained some weight," it would just make me want to eat more bad stuff. |

My brother asked me if I had been gaining weight last week. He's the skinny one of the family and it offended me. Esp cause I've been trying to lose
weight or atleast not gain any... I was just bloated & PMSing.

No, it's not your sisterly duty to tell her she's fat. You should never tell anyone that.
