The black checkered ones are originally Palestinian, and the red is originally Jordanian. But Arabs all over the Middle East wear both these kinds.
Even Urban Outfitters started selling them. But, they actually pulled them out the shelves because some complained that terrorists wear them. I find it quite appalling as a Palestinian that this kaffiyeh is being framed as a terrorist accessory and then painting all Palestinians in the same brush. Originally, the kaffiyeh was worn by Palestinian peasants, and then later on during revolts against the British in the 30s, and then the Jewish occupation in the 60s in Palestine did it only became also a Palestinian political symbol. Then Yasser Arafat donned it as his trademark headgear. But originally and for everyday day, it is for traditional/cultural wear.
Anyways, I just thought it was interesting that Urban Outfitters pulled them off the shelves because of ignorant and prejudice complaints about Palestinians and the kaffiyehs they wear.

these scarves! I've got several.
