It was still better than this. Guess I'll take nothing with my characters than a bunch of crap without my characters.

I actually hated Bella somtimes in Eclipse.
But you're right. BD was not the same type of writing. Hopefully Midnight Sun will be amazing. A girl can hope... |

[quote]Second - The fight with the Volturi should have happened.
FOR REALS! and maybe instead of Jacob imprinting on Renesmee and being a pedophile he should've gone for Leah instead.. |

As far as I'm concerned, all we needed from Eclipse was "Compromise." I can't think of another thing that is absolutely crucial in the long
run. In fact, this series really could have been 1-2 and finished, easily.
( I get more and more bitter every day I think. But it's an understated bitter.) |

See I guess I'm the only one who noticed the books were crap by the end of Twilight and wisely jumped ship from that point. The initial meeting/coupling of
Edward/Bella was fantastic but Bella was just such a useless, whiny, personality lacking vortex of suck that it just ruined the books.
I couldn't understand what Edward saw in Bella and later Jacob. She was just this whiny, needy, constantly insecure brat who had no particularly interesting personality quirks, talent, etc. Bella's sole purpose, sole identity really was obsessing over a guy whether romantically (Edward) or platonically (Jacob). When Edward left in New Moon she transferred her obsessive, needy, clingy qualities onto her platonic friendship with Jacob. It's like the girl had no identity unless she was obsessing over some guy. Like I said, I quit after Twilight. When I found myself secretly hoping James would kill Bella, I figured that the book had lost me since I highly doubt that's what Myers was going for. No way was I spending money on the other books but you have to love modern technology. Some site had both New Moon and Eclipse downloaded and honestly I found Jacob's story/struggle in becoming a werewolf interesting and that's just it. I like both Jacob and Edward just fine and had the series been some saga of vampires vs. werewolves with the two guys I don't know friends or something; I would have loved it. The problem is Bella and she's the main damn character who everyone practically bends over backwards for and I have yet to see one reason why she's so damn special. Incidentally, even if it was right there, I didn't bother reading Eclipse...no interest whatsoever and reading the spoilers of Breaking Dawn; lordy there are no words. |

first and foremost i would like the words 'box of tampons' omitted from Breaking Dawn. when i saw that nonsense i knew this book was about to really
turn all sorts of trashy.
i copied and pasted my response from the lexicon.... i really just hated breaking dawn. to be perfectly honest, i would be perfectly happy reading twilight and stopping there. the last three books really just lack for me. my biggest complaint, with the immaculate conception being second, is that the book seemed poorly spliced together. it felt as if the end had been written prior and the middle and beginning were just added later for filler space. after recently watching that dreadful interview with the " rob effect" ( which as a massive side note, just makes me so angry. own up that you wrote a crappy book that only ill-read fourteen year olds love. dont use rob as your scapegoat.) being mentioned, i now stand strong on that opinion. it seemed, also, that this whole book is a big defiant middle finger to everyone who has read and enjoyed the series. i am quite fresh to the series ( i started reading them in july just before breaking dawns release) so im still figuring out the details and the intensity of the twilight fandom, but its not hard to figure out what people wanted as the result of breaking dawn, and that stephenie meyer consciously chose to take every idea, wish, and hope and demolish them. it seems a feeble attempt to prove herself as a cunning and imaginative writer. what better 'plot' than to take everything that is assumed and reverse it? who could forget that? that aside, i felt as if i was reading another book filled with characters that i had never read before. the beauty and simplicity i noticed in twilight ( and what kept me curious to suffer through the rest of the books) was missing. the relationship belonging to edward and bella, the basis of the books, was overlooked completely. in twilight the lust between the two of them was nice and heady while remaining the least bit vulgar. in breaking dawn it seemed they could barely focus on anything ( their mutant family? for one) but having a roll in the sheets. i understand the significance of consummating their marriage, but i felt the continual banter of sex just cheapened everything that had been worked up to until then. i really wish more focus had been placed on the wedding and the droned on about conflict between bella, edward, and jacob and less attention paid to the suddenly vile rosalie and creepy nessie, and the ever pointless aro & company. it seemed too many unexpected twists ( harry potter book six, are you trying to show your face here?) and turns were included. maybe it was a conscious effort to try and ensure that a few more exciting and engaging movies would be made, because really, two more twilights? been there and done that. if thats the case, i wish it wasnt so...grossly morbid and overthought. |

my biggest complaint, with the immaculate conception being second, is that the book seemed poorly spliced together. it felt as if the end had been written prior and the middle and beginning were just added later for filler space. I very much suspect that's what DID happen, since her original intention was to have this be the second and final part of the series and her publishers made her put in new Moon and Eclipse. |

lleyki69 wrote: I agree completely with this. I still wanted her to die, or at least not be turned into a vampire, but no. You're lucky you didn't waste your time with Breaking Dawn. I took that damn book back, and the woman at Borders asked me if there was a problem with the book. I said, "Yes. I loathed it." She asked if I read the other three, and I said yes, and she didn't understand why I hated BD and why I was bringing it back. |

i did post it at the lexicon.and i havent been banned. and surprisingly no one has said anything about what i posted?
to be 'fair' though, its in a 'breaking dawn: i hated it" specific thread. and also, now hearing that she wanted two books only, i kind of do feel bad she got pushed to put two more, but not bad enough to support awful writing. |

The end seemed like the biggest cop-out in the universe. I kind of feel bad for SM though cuz she HAS to know that her fans are PISSED. I think 2 books would
have sufficed. New Moon gave way to a lot of Jacob's life and Eclipse was a fucking waste of time. BD was dumb from beginning to end. I loved Twilight so
much and to see it end like that was so disappointing.

Well after finishing the book now I can see what everyone is talking about. I just kept thinking, really this has to be a joke. And I will agree Bella drove
me crazy as well not a huge fan of this special image everyone in the books had of her or something.
Im glad I read all the books though. |

lleyki69 wrote: Good for you for actually making it through the entire book. I enjoyed close to the first half (more like first 3rd); not well written but it seemed promising to me. Wrong. I forced my self to get through 3/4 and then I just could NOT take it any more. I cant imagine any book being worse than Twilight. You cant really blame an author for publishing crap when her fans have low standards to begin with. |

I think the thing about Bella's personality is that Twilight is written from her perspective. She's talking about how she sees herself.
I guess I identify a little with being self conscious and whiney about myself. Feeling very average most of the time (well, I guess I really am), etc... I should say that Bella did extremely annoy me at some points, though!

I just put down Breaking Dawn - and I have to say, my initial reaction was.. "meh".
The main thing I didn't get about the entire series was the back and forth of Bella's decisions.. making Edward that much more appealing to me. He was consistent. She was all over. For example, in Twilight, Bella specifically mentions one day wanting to marry Edward. Then he finally asks. Then she changes her mind. Then she wants to marry him to have sex with him. She wants so much to be immortal with him, and then practically chickens out. Then she's pregnant.. it just doesn't FIT. It went from being this intense, lust-filled, breath-taking love story to mutant-child and sex whenever we can get it. And the end scene. Bloodshed would have been nice. A Cullen should have fallen, the Volturi should have fallen, with a new, brighter day on the horizon. No, we get this "we had a chat, and some tea, and we're cool"... it just didn't make.. sense. Like masturbating without the payoff. Which brings me to Midnight Sun.. which I think, really has potential. Edward, to me, is still the epitome of male perfection - in control, strong, loyal, hopeful - everything a girl can dream of - and it's nice to see his point of view, however arrogant (although justified, in my opinion) he may be. My favorite part of the whole series was the tense back and forth of the relationship - which could have ended with Eclipse. She could have tied those ends up there and been done with it. Sorry about my rant - I've just been through all 4 books, in about 4 days... so I'm thinking about it alot. I will probably re-read the first 3 this weekend, as I ran through them so fast.. but I won't be picking up BD for a while. MS's leak will have to do. |
