I've "quit" smoking, and I can't stop biting my nails...ugh it hurts to type. Does anyone have any recommendations that don't involve
cigarettes? Help!

Bite It, you can buy it at CVS. It tastes horrible & doesn't wash off. I had the same problem and used this, every time I tried to bite my nails the
taste would make me gag

I couldn't get use to the flavor, it's like earwax mixed with death. It gets on your lips, your mouth area, everywhere. Every time you lick your lips
that shit is there

I tried some nasty tasting stuff on my nails when I was younger, but I never really stopped biting them until I started painting them.

I can grow them if I really really try hard, but these past few months I cannot stop biting them. I'm going to have to try the death earwax.
I dont even think I have enough nail to polish it is grotesque |

I bite and pick my nails so that stuff won't work with me, because if it tastes bad, then I'll pick at them.
I was on wikipedia the other day and apparently nail biting/picking has to do with anxiety, which has something to do with OCD, which i find oh so very interesting |

I actually bite my nails when one breaks, so they're all the same. I would rather bite them than use nail clippers, but I used to just bite them when I was
bored, so in high school after I took a test and had nothing to do... I would bite my nails. So I don't think anxiety/OCD is the reason for everyone.

Lollipops! Years ago my mom quit smoking cold turkey (she almost miscarried my sister and right after she quit smoking everything got better and my sister was
born healthy) and she just sucked on lollipops alllll the time. She said it really helped her.

Oooh good idea! I love those lollipops high school used to sell, I think Wal-Mart still sells them.
This boy I was friends with and I would buy the caramel popcorn one and share it. Gross, but ahhh memories. I think I had long nails then too!! |

So true about the anxiety thing. My hand just automatically goes to my mouth when I'm uncomfortable or nervous. I'll remember that my nails are painted
and then just switch to something else. (So when I say I "quit biting my nails," it really means, "I traded biting my nails to picking at my
hair," which really makes me annoyed at myself because... ew.)

Have you talked to your dentist? I'm sure s/he would help you out with getting invisalign.

I stopped when I started getting manicures. For some reason I never bit them after they were done and then I would notice that they would grow, and I liked it,
so I stopped lol.
I mean I still put my nails in my mouth, I'm like a freaking infant. |

Gemini9857 wrote:Yeah I actually have, but that was when they were brand new and I couldn't afford it. My (insanely hot, male) dentist said I had great shaped teeth (? I hope that was a line!) and invisalign would work well. Do you have any clue if insurance companies are starting to cover it? My sister also wants it! |

And it's only the corners I nibble on.

Even when I had acrylic nails I would nibble and always run my teeth over them. I used to get manicures too. But then I started biting a little bit at a time.
It's spun out of control frankly
