When I hear about people killed by drunk drivers, I think of people that actually know them. They were "clean" their whole life* and just a stupid judgement call easily turned them into a killer.
Do you know anyone who has killed someone/seriously injured?

Yes. He was involved in beating someone to the point of near death and spent time in jail for it. I knew him for a while before I found out. He'd never
been perfect but I didn't know he had that in him. ETA- Forgot a kid I knew in high school killed two people in a boating accident (it involved alcohol).

Yes. She was driving down a curvy road and thought she hit a deer. She hit him and he died instantly. I knew them both. Freak accident.

Well I had a cousin who killed himself driving. He was drunk and decided to drive home from his friend's wedding instead of calling a cab or his parents.
He crashed his motorcycle. Very hard for his parents. His dad is on the volunteer fire department and to hear that over the radio and pray that it is not his
son and it turns out it was. That was the same year they lost their youngest granddaughter too.

Yes, he was driving and his friend in the passenger seat wasn't wearing a seatbelt. His friend died two days later and he served a year in jail.

a girl that I knew due to her mom working with my Mom killed a homeless person because she was street racing, lost control and went through a fence. She killed
one homeless person and put another in the hospital. She only got like 3 years in jail, can you believe that fuckery. she should have gotten way longer

One of my good friends used to have temper issues. He got in a few fights where he put people in the hospital for weeks. He got help for it though and has not
fought in a long time.

I did. My great uncle killed his brother-in-law They were both drunk, and got in a fight. He did 10 years, I think. He passed away last year, though.

One kid I know drove drunk and hit an oncoming car, killing the driver. Another kid went around a curve when the road was wet with his best friend in the car
and hit a tree, killed the best friend. Sucks.

My Dad has killed a couple of people, but completely not his fault.
He has been a railroad engineer for almost 40 years. And 2 times, guys got drunk, and stopped their cars on the train tracks for some reason, and my Dad couldn't stop in time. He felt so awful, it really upset him, of course. But they did the toxicology tests on the guys, and found them both to be way over the legal limit. My Dad had to have all the routine drug and alcohol testing right after the crashes, too, and he was completely clean. He's a really good engineer. But those trains are huge, and they take quite a while to stop. By the time he saw the guys, it was too late to stop.

I know a guy who shot and killed his father (we were childhood friends, but have not talked in over seven years) I also know a few people who have been killed in car wrecks. |

not personally. a girl I worked with had to deal with her brother killing a good friend of his in some drunken argument. He'd finally got out of county
jail for non-payment of child support and went right back in after this shooting. His kids lived out of state and I don't think they even got to see him in
the short time he was out.

A guy my husband graduated with (class of 68 people, so he knew him pretty well) slit his wife's throat. He got the death penalty and is still on death
row. We found out about it when we went back for his high school reunion last summer.

My brother was killed in an auto accident on his way back from a party he attended with a friend after a Redskins game. Thank goodness the friend didn't
leave with him, but they should have never allowed him to drive after he had been drinking. He worked in DC and was working on his masters' degree. It is
believed he had been drinking and was speeding. He was ejected 100 feet in the air and died instantly. He was only 25 and I recall my dad always telling him
to slow down when he drove. When I was little I remember how afraid I was to ride with him because he was always speeding.
