My co-worker rang my boss at 3am in the morning to say he wouldn't be in because he wasn't sleeping, was tired and needed to recharge the batteries

Nah he didn't get fired. Legal and staff ratio issues...kind of hard to explain if you don't know the business/industry. He got a formal written
warning and if he stuffs up in the slightest ever again he'll get the flick for sure.

tired = hungover.
Is this guy part of the "me" generation? Early-mid 20's. Thinks the whole world will stop for him? |

Sorry, but every once in a while you need a mental health day. You work 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week or more, you're going to need a day every once in a
while to just give yourself a break. I've done it before. I call it a sick day. As in "I'm sick of work" day.

If the job is truck driving I think I'd rather some one take a day to re-charge.
Sometimes you just need a day. You don't make it a habit, though. Sometimes also should equal 'rarely'. |

Who would admit they didn't come in because they are tired? I've taken off for that reason before but I was never dumb enough to say that's the
reason! I may be a liar but I aint stupid!

Yeah. When I call in a sick day I actually tell them I'm sick, even if I'm not physically. I'd never be dumb enough to call my boss in the middle
of the night and tell them I'm not coming in the next day because I'm tired. Who does that?!

If I didn't go to work b/c I was tired, I would never be at work.
