Well, if that's the case, then we shouldn't have public schools either. Because education isn't a right, either.
We're the richest fucking nation in the WORLD. We should be able to give people what ARE human rights. I don't need the Constitution or BOR to tell me people deserve health care at no cost. That your life is better than another persons because you make more money than them. |

I also see people abuse the system just to get government grants. My best friend grew up in a poor family and her siblings received grants and financial aide to go to college. Her siblings ended up just going to school for those checks at the end of the semester. And this cycle you are talking about, it can be broken but that's only if you want it to. Sorry I know this is sort of O/T from this whole topic but I can't stand it when people blame their life on the system and being poor. There ARE circumstances where you are stuck, but for the most part as I have said before, if you want to better your life, it is very possible. You just have to want to. |

I can't believe I read this whole post. If anyone is interested, median US income in the US is 50k. Higher in some areas, lower in other areas, but looking
at the big picture (which so many fail to do), 45K is NOT rich. And average starting salary for new college grads is around 43k last I read.
Having said that, of course, you can use whatever measure of center you want to prove whatever your point is. The top whatever percent earn a third of the income. I don't think the answer is to take from the rich and give to the poor, nor is it for America as a whole to ignore the 12 or 15% or whatever it is of people who are living in poverty. There is a middle ground, and our system is killing our chances of ever finding it. Even the JJB can't find middle ground. I don't like how the US Government spends our tax money, period. It's all skewy. And I don't trust them as far as I can throw them from a universal healthcare perspective. Look at Social Security, look at Medicare, look at ANY government program and tell me you'd be okay with handing the management of your health insurance over to a government agency. The system is broken, but we need an intelligent way to fix it. I think Obama is on the right track. |
