I had to unplug it because nothing would respond. When I booted it back up I had this disgusting Antivirus XP program randomly installed on my computer and it destroyed everything... I tried to google how to get rid of it, but I couldn't click on any links because it just opened up more search engines in a different window. And it was happening in both IE and Firefox. I could GET to JJB, but I couldn't type anything to post a topic for help!! I ended up having to download two different programs to strip everything out of my system and I just finally got my browser working again. Gaaaaaah. Anybody else had a problem with this "rogue software" they're calling it?? I want to know if I'm in the clear or if I'm going to run into more problems... I'm debating a re-format but I need to back everything up first.

It ended up getting as deep as the registry files, which can make everything blow. You're lucky you were able to get to the internet to download the programs. Mine caused my browsers to crash. Also, now would be a good time to run another scan, if you haven't already. A good anti-malware program can be helpful as well.

Posts: 5755 (09/04/2008 4:38 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Friend Block Invite Ignore	It was ravaging half the systems on my campus and I had to remove them from about 3 to 4 dozen faculty/staff computers. It's a pain in the ass and installs a root kit, which makes it almost impossible to completely clean out unless you really know what you're doing. It's one of the worse ones I've come across.

I actually downloaded the programs on my boyfriend's computer and moved them over to mine on a zip drive. Everything I tried to download was "corrupted." I guess now if the time to go out and get an external hard drive... 500gb for $70 sounds like a good deal, right?
