I have a friend who's step sister is 19 years old and is adopted and has no idea. And everyone in her family knows about it and her dad has told them to not tell her. They actually skipped her grandmothers funeral because her uncle said that he would tell her next time he saw her because it was wrong that everyone is hiding it from her. I think it's incredibly wrong of her parents not to tell her. Especially when everyone knows.

Personally I think you're better off always telling them from the beginning so that they grow up used to the idea and don't get this big shock later, but even later is better than not telling them and having them find out by accident from elsewhere.

She never knew any different when she was younger. Like, she didn't get that her parents were a different "color" than her. Then one day in elementary school a kid made a comment about it so she went home and asked her parents. They were honest with her. But she wasn't angry or anything, she was adopted when she was about 6 months old. Growing up (puberty and stuff) was a little hard for her. She struggled with whether or not she wanted to know more about her birth parents or not. She's 24 now.

We will have our Gotcha Day on November 4th and we will celebrate every year. They really are too young to know what we are talking about right now, but in a few years they will understand.

I hope someone in her family gets the balls and DOES tell her because that's just awful of her parents to do that to her.

Yeah, my friend wants to tell but also feels like it's not really her place to tell, she also feels like the step sister will be really hurt that she knew and took so long to tell her.
