I have a Yorkie. She is on the bigger side for a yorkie so she will probably not have ay health problems. Lots of them have heart conditions due to them being
bread to be small.
They don't shed at all because they have hair not fur. And she has to be groomed like every other month. She is pretty hyper and barks a lot. But she is a lot of fun and is really funny. |

I have a maltese. No shedding, so far no medical problems, and she gets washed/brushed once every two weeks (by us) and professionally groomed probably every
two months or so.

I also have yorkies. Both are on the bigger side as well, and my vet did mention that generally speaking the bigger ones are healthier.
That being said, yorkies are prone to all kinds of health problems. Luxating patellas (differing grades, 3 and 4 can require surgery) and liver shunts (also can require surgery and special diets) are two of the more common ones for yorkies. Yorkies are very high maintenance in terms of grooming if you want to keep them with full coats. A lot of people choose to go with a "puppy cut" which minimizes some of the time needed to be spent with grooming. They are by no means low maintenance though. If you decide on a yorkie, you would want one with a silky coat not a cotton (soft) coat. The cotton coats are much more prone to matting and harder to manage. One of my girls I have had since she was a puppy and the other was a rescue. They both get along very well and are friendly, happy dogs. I have heard yorkies are not good with kids, but my two seem fine with the children they have been exposed to while at the park, etc. They are both relatively hyper at 1.5 and 2 years old. |

I had a yorkie who was 3lbs full grown. She didn't even make it to her 2nd birthday. she was always sick and she broke her leg twice just by jumping off
the couch. she had to have a pin put in her leg and died shortly after the surgery. so if you get one get a bigger one. they are sweet. my sister has a maltese
she is really really really mellow and not particularly affectionate. she is so cute though. no idea what other maltese are like.

I never had any of them, but I have been around Maltese, Yorkie and maybe Havanese. All three are dogs you would take to a groomer. Maltese and Yorkie from my
experience get a lot of knots and mats (more so with a Maltese than a Yorkie) and I would think Havanese would be the same way. So I would recommend brushing
them every day or every other. The Yorkies I have been around have been pretty good at brushing out, there have been rare times that I had problems. They all
pretty much had knots, but were easy to get out. Some time with a little bit of biting. Just think of how it feels when you get a knot in your hair, it is the
same way for them - if not worse.
Small dogs tend to have a lot of teeth problems. I have seen people take teeth out with their finger without any problems. Not to much the barking and biting. I do not think there have been that many Yorkies that have tried to bite me, most of the time it was due to knots though. They always seem to be pretty sweet, even after they have tried to bite me. Maltese I would trust with a ten foot pole. I have been biten by one and many others that have tried, some time it was brushing them out and other was just getting them out of a cage or something like that. Since Havanese are similar in coat as a Maltese, I am not sure if I would recommend them. |

I have a Yorkie. He'll be 2 in May and he's about 6 lbs. He definitely has a Napoleon complex. He barks more than my Husky. He is the first to run to
the door and bark at anyone there. Thinks he's a really tough guy. With that said, when he gets like that and you try to stop him, he gets pissed.
I get him groomed every couple of months. Other than that I bathe him when he needs it. His hair never really NEEDS to be brushed, but I do it to make him cuddly and fluffy. He doesn't shed at all which is really nice...especially because, like I said, we also have a Husky. She does plenty of shedding for the both of them. He definitely has separation anxiety. Very cuddly. Always wants to be next to us. I love my little Armani with all my heart. He can be a pain in the ass but he's my baby. He's black and brown which for some reason seems rare. It seems like they are always born that way but turn that blonde/grey color as they get older. |
