Batoutofheck wrote:well first of all, i wasn't the one paying--my friend was. hence the waitress following my friend. sorry if that wasn't clear and as far as i remember (it was several years ago), my friend honestly forgot. it happens. HOWEVER as far as i'm concerned, following someone out of a restaurant and asking why you didn't get a tip is sorta a tip dealbreaker.
ChasevidWrightley wrote:Well, why didn't you leave a tip?
Reminds me of the time a waitress FOLLOWED my friend and me OUT of Ruby Tuesday and said "excuse me, you didn't leave me a tip, did i do something wrong?"
My mom undertipped the waiter and got called out on it

Did she forget to pay the bill, too? Aren't the two tasks kind of related?

I think they are raising the minimum wage for servers. It's $2.83 here, I think it's supposed to go up to $5 something. A friend of mine still works at
the restaurant I used to work at - she's super excited.
I NEVER and I would advise JJB TO NEVER use a credit card when going out to eat. I know some people live by plastic (I know I do, I never have cash on me and usually depend solely on my debit card) but you can't trust people anymore. I've seen somebody carried out of the restaurant in handcuffs because of this shit. The horror stories are all over the place. The girl that used to work where I worked would change the tip. You know how they have a line for you to write in the tip? She would change the numbers on the tip line and then on the total. She would change it to be a dollar or two difference - sometimes even 50 cents. Over the course of the night - say she had like 20 tables. Times that by working a few days a week. When it came down to it they found that she had stolen over $3000 in a few months. The only reason they caught her is because 2 separate people called in and said they were overcharged which in turn made them look into things because it was the same server. The other day my mom's friend CAUGHT HER WAITER TAKING A PICTURE OF HER CARD WITH HIS CELL PHONE. He was hunched in the corner with her card and his cell phone out. He was fired immediately but in this day and age you can't trust people anymore. I never let the card out of my sight - and at restaurants they just take it - you don't know what they're doing with it. In any case, that's my story. Love you JJB. |

I'm sure she doesn't have that job for funsies. |

AudaciousAudrey wrote: Speaking as someone who is a big tipper (tips at least 20% for bad service) I personally find it tacky and unprofessional to ask for a tip. I can also see forgetting to leave a tip. I've had a couple times where I'm busy getting my kids ready to leave the restaurant and maybe my phone will ring or something and I almost forgot to not only tip but almost forgot to pay for the meal. Shit happens and it's not like it's regular occurance. |

AudaciousAudrey wrote:LMAO. ok. clearly you've never had a single problem in your life that left you distracted in just about EVERYTHING, right? you are being absolutely ridiculous. i don't really feel the need to defend myself to you in any way, and i think it's fucking ridiculous that you're jumping down MY throat for this when to be honest, i wasn't even the one paying the bill (and if i had, i WOULDN'T have forgotten to leave a tip, and i generally leave 20 percent MINIMUM [on the tax too, since that's been a source of drama in this post as well] if the service calls for it, but that's besides the point...). i've also found that servers who have been bad enough to not get a tip at all (they've been few and far between, i assure you) generally don't give a SHIT if they did something wrong in my personal experience. i admit, my friend made a mistake in not leaving a tip. it sucks, especially since the waitress was pretty good. but i don't understand you getting all sanctimonious and acting like i'm some kind of scum because my friend (juuuust in case you missed it the first several times i said it) made an innocent mistake. have you ever made a mistake? |

That's a SUPER shitty tip, but the waiter should be used to it. It happens all the time. He should have just walked in the back and called you trash and
wished bad things upon you. That's what I would have done.

I don't think I'm acting like you're scum, I just think people need to pay more attention to what they're doing. It's really not fair that the waitress didn't get a tip when she deserved one just because your friend was too flighty to remember to leave one. I'm not blaming you for your friend forgetting to leave a tip, I just don't understand why you think the waitress was so out of line asking if she did something wrong when she obviously deserved a tip. |

We generally take the tax and triple it and that's the tip...usually works out to a good amount.

AudaciousAudrey wrote:okay, i think i misunderstood your intentions, then. sorry! it's really hard to read tone over the internet, you know? i think my biggest problem with the situation was the fact that she followed us out of the restaurant and into the mall and started the question with "you didn't leave me a tip. did i do something wrong?" i guess i'm just being picky, but it would have been a little easier to take if she had started off by asking if she had done something wrong. as far as asking straight up for a tip though? always tacky in my opinion. eh, i don't know. i'm tired. |

Wait, I was always taught the tip is 10%. You mean I've been looking like an asshole every time I eat out?
