Is Seattle a city that you can get away with not having a car? Lots of public transportation? Or is it a city that you really need to have a car to get around
in?

Depends where you're going. Chinatown, if you're going in the daytime, you're gonna need a bus. At night, a car is fine. Downtown, Uptown,
Belltown, Seattle Center, Pioneer Square, you have to take the bus. There is absolutely 0 parking...
Malls and stuff, a car is fine. I have a car and a license, but I spend the majorty of the time taking the bus because I spend most of my time going to the places I mentioned above.

We're not SF or NYC. If you have the patience (and you will need A LOT) to put up with Metro Bus, then pretty much yea you can go a lot of places with
Metro Bus. We also have a light rail that will start up in a couple weeks from the airport, Tukwila to Seattle DT. But it's just better to have a car.

As an east coast girl, trust that the public transportation system here is terrible- light rails, trains and all that, especially if youre not planning on
living and working in the city. Of course this is just my experience. But on bus, it takes 35 minutes to get downtown from my house and thats if I take an
express commuter. If I tried to take a bus to the mall or go downtown on the weekends, Im going to be on the bus for at least an hour each way but it takes me
25 minutes to drive.

Yes. My dad works in Redmond, so just driving there takes about 25-30 minutes. But if he were to take the bus, it would take him about 2 hrs (one-way).

Depends on where you live in relation to where you work and what you like doing for fun. I'd say that the public transportation definitely sucks here. You
can get by with buses. A lot of people also use zipcars and bike around a lot too.

Also, if you're working in Downtown or something, since there's no parking there, we got these little "Park and Rides" where it's just a
giant parking lot next to a bus station and you can park your car there and just take the bus to downtown!

Damn, I was hoping that if I got placed in Seattle (at the port) with my new job, I could cut down on expenses by not having a car. But I guess not., most
likely.
