Tourist attactions in Eastern Canada? |
Lead | |
|
We are planning to do a road trip from Ontario to all over Eastern Canada (Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick) and I'm just
wondering what are some good places to go there?
Anything is good. Food places, scenic views, historical sites... etc. Thanks! |

My family did part of that trip years ago and we had a blast. The places I remember most was St. Andrew's By The Sea which is a gorgeous little town in New
Brunswick called St. Andrew's By The Sea. Quaint little town with gorgeous old colonial homes and a great little shopping district downtown with nice shops
and excellent little restaurants. If clams are in season, they are a must to eat!. Also, if you have the time, you should really travel the Cabot Trail on
Cape Breton Island. Halifax is also a fun stop if you want to go to a big city. Take a walk down on the boardwalk and see the gorgeous sail boats etc. Lots
of great shopping and night life there also.
We went to Magnetic Hill and the Reversing Falls which were actually boring.

NancyOttawa wrote: Yep. What I did: New Brunswick - Spilly's in Edmunston has delicious pita's! We went to Nackawic to see the World's Largest Axe. (Not much to do there, but it was fun to see Hopewell Rocks in Hopewell were pretty neat. Shediac Bay - Lobster fishing! Lots of fun(and yummy too!) We went with a company called Shediac Bay Cruises (it's probably the only one there since it's a really small town, but just in case.) St.Andrews - Whale watching! Ah it was wicked! There was a humpback that hung around our boat for a good half hour. There's also a touch tank where you get to hold starfish, sunfish and sea urchins (I went with Quoddy Cruise) Nova Scotia - You HAVE to do the Cabot Trail! It's soooo gorgeous. It was the only place my friend and I saw moose on our road trip across Canada Fortress of Louisbourg - I thought would be lame, but it was actually really neat going through all the old buildings. And all the people talk/are dressed as if they were in that time. Sydney has a giant violin (we saw that to kill time waiting for a ferry) Glace Bay - Miner's Museum - you get to go down a mine shaft, pretty cool. Halifax - Citadel Hill, not very interesting. Especially after Louisbourg. - King of Donairs (or any donair place, really.) It's all pizza/sub/donair shops. -Public Gardens are nice to walk around for maybe an hour or so - PEGGY'S COVE is really gorgeous, especially if you like taking lots of pictures. When I went, it was pretty stormy so the waves were huge If you go to NFLD, take a flight or the ferry that goes straight to St.John's! We took the shorter ferry that goes to the other side of the island and it took about 12 hours to get to the other side. We didn't get to stay in St.John's (there were no hotels for 25 miles, so book ahead!) but it definitely looked like a wicked place to hang around. We slept at Cape Spear which is the most eastern point in Canada. We intended to watch the sunrise, but we were way too cold and tired... I didn't do anything in P.E.I just because I wasn't too interested in Anne Of Green Gables, but it's supposed to be cute. |

You've probably already been and gone but I already typed this out
Just a quick note, if you do go to Cape Breton, don't judge all Nova Scotians by them If you decide not to go up Cape Breton way, go through the Valley, see Port Royal/Fort Anne, go to Upper Clements Park, come down the shore have some Digby scallops, come through to Yarmouth, see the lighthouse at Cape Forchu, eat at Rudder's (right on the waterfront, best seafood around!)...sadly, not much shopping to do around here but it's pretty! I've only ever been to Magic Mountain/Magnetic Hill and Crystal Palace in New Brunswick and that was when I was 12 so I don't really have much to say about New Brunswick. I've never been to PEI and NL actually. I do know they charge like $35 to leave PEI (bridge fees) I've pretty well been all over Nova Scotia though (I'm from Yarmouth, lived in Port Hawkesbury (Cape Breton)...two complete opposite sides of the province!) so if you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM!
Enjoy your trip! |

we did a lot of weekend road trips
