People need to learn they are not invincible. I feel bad for the families but the driver was a complete moron. I'm sure he knew better than to try to out
run a train when crossing gates are down. Absolutely terrible.

FireBirdGoddess wrote:Its been the headline story on the local news (Detroit Metro Area) all afternoon. A local WDIV reporter got a chance to look at the security tape but was spared seeing the impact by a large bush. Here's what happened according to the time-stamped video: Utter Stupidity! 12:09:11PM (E.S.T.)- - The flashing lights were on and a White SUV (traveling northbound) stopped to allow the train to pass... a full 17 seconds after the SUV stopped. 12:09:28 - a Black Ford Fusion traveling northbound approached and never slowed down. It swerved around the SUV onto the tracks and was instantly struck by the train (traveling 67MPH) which drug the vehicle about 100 yards before it could stop. The vehicle just darted onto the tracks and the engineer didn't have any time to react. After three hours Amtrak detached the westbound engine (which had the vehicle embedded in the front) and took the train and its passengers back to Detroit with the eastbound engine. No one on the train was hurt other than a passenger who had an asthma attack. Passengers who were interviewed on the 4,5 & 6 o'clock newscasts said they felt an abrupt jarring bump and then the train stopped for 3 hours (during which time they were fed and advised of the plans to return to Detroit). Teenage stupidity. 4 boys: 17 & 18 years of age 1 girl: 14 years of age |
