I just went in for a LASIK consultation and was told that PRK surgery was the best option for me. I'm worried about the recovery time and pain after
surgery. Has anyone ever had it done?
Anyone ever have PRK Eye surgery?

I had it done 4 years ago.
My eyes were really sensitive to light once I got home (I had to keep my eyes closed with sunglasses on and the blinds closed for about 2 days). Once the contact lenses came out, all the pain went away and I was fine. If you have any specific questions or want more info, feel free to PM me. |

What's PRK eye surgery/how is it different from LASIK?

With PRK surgery they dont create a flap. The top level of epitheleal cells are scraped off and then the laser surgery is performed.

From what I understand:
PRK is where they scrape a layer off your cornea and the laser does it's business. They put a contact lens over your cornea to protect it (another layer grows in about 2 days and your doctor takes the lens off when they see that it looks good) LASIK is when they cut a layer of your cornea and flip it back, the laser does it's business and the flap goes back over your cornea. Recovery time is much faster. (Sorry if there are no paragraph breaks, I'm on my blackberry) |

Yeah from what the doctor said, the PRK surgery recovery time could be up to a month. I wouldn't be able to drive or read for 5-7 days. With Lasik people
can see clearly the day after.

I apologize in advance for the lack of paragraphs as I am also on my blackberry. I got PRK of September of last year. I will tell you right now that I was in a
lot of pain the first week after and slept for most of it. I was -7.5 in both eyes, so I don't know if that was part of the reason that I was in a lot of
pain. Either way, the first night was really hard because my eyes burned and I couldn't rub them. I honestly felt like I had sand/glass in my eyes until
they took the contacts out. I couldn't drive or work for 5-6 days. I think my eyes were swollen for 3-4 weeks and I didn't wear make-up for 6. BUT, now
that I am better than 20/20, I would go through the pain every day to see like I am now. Email me at k_lefever124@yahoo.com if you want more info or have
questions and I can write more not on my blackberry
