$1200 a month doesn't sound like enough to live on your own.

Yeah $1200 a month does NOT seem like you can afford to live on your own at ALL

JuJuIsLikeWHOA wrote: If you're going to be making about $1200/month, you're going to be living paycheck to paycheck with $600/mo for rent. That only gives you an additional $600 for all other necessities and doesn't include ANY wiggle room for emergencies you may have. Just with the figures you have above, you're looking at $260 left over to cover your utilities and other expenses. I'm not a financial whiz by any means, but that would be too close for comfort for me. |

My fiance pays more per month for a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment then you make a month. I'd stay with the parents until you can either make more
money or save up a lot unless you can find a super cheap place. Maybe where you live it's cheaper.

I now have a house but before I paid about 525 for 600 sq ft 1bdrm in TX.
water-$15 Electric-$35-65 in the summer Cable/Internet-$100 Cell Phone-$65 Car-$380 Still have to think about gas, food, ect.. but I agree...$1200 does not sound like enough to live on your own. When I made that much I had a roommate and no car and my rent was $200 plus half the bills |

Oh god people. There are exceptions to everything but a newbie from Bumfuck, Nebraska coming to live in nyc usually doesn't want to live in Bay Ridge or
West Harlem. I'm sorry, but as a native NYer even I wouldn't want to live out in Bay Ridge either. I'm from E. Flatbush and yes, you can find cheap
places to rent there but the neighborhood is in the middle of nowhere and chances are the apt hasn't been renovated...ever.

Stella, I live in Williamsburg. And I agree that if people are moving to NY they are usually anticipating something a little more glamourous than Bay Ridge.
