hey! i'm been living in ireland for a few months (i'm from the u.s.) and i've been to a few cities here, as well as scotland and england...
as far as ireland, i've been living in galway and it's my favorite city here. it's more like a town. it's really gorgeous and there are tons and tons of bars since you're into that. just bring a good raincoat.
you mentioned going to blarney - that was my second favorite place in ireland! it's really close to cork so you can go there and see the city (the gaol/jail is really cool and there are some gorgeous cathedrals). kissing the blarney stone is fun but there are actually a lot of grounds around blarney with GORGEOUS nature walks (and i'm not really an outdoorsey person!), so you can spend a few hours there, definitely. also, kilkenny is definitely worth a visit - it's a pretty small town but it's really cute and fun to walk around. dublin is overrated but i guess worth going to for a day or two. ireland is an awesome country, just, like i mentioned, it rains SO much which i hate! in scotland, edinburgh is a must-see! it was one of the most beautiful cities i've ever been to... it's really fascinating because so much of it is hundreds of years old, unlike most historic cities that have older sections but are mostly modern. like someone mentioned, there are lots of ghost tours that are fun. there are vaults underneath the city that are really creepy but worth going down into (if you're into creepy stuff). also, check out the highlands. you can do a highlands day (or two-day) tour from edinburgh, or (like my friend and i did) stay in inverness a couple nights and get around visa bus/walking. there's so much history nearby and it really is some gorgeous scenery. a loch ness cruise is worth it (check out jacobite cruises); it's really relaxing and very pretty. we didn't see nessie though. and i've heard glasglow is terrible and full of 'winos' and everyone says not to go there... we walked around downtown for like ten
minutes during a bus layover (i took an overnight bus from inverness to london - check out megabus) and thought it was really crappy... so... yeah.
in england, if you are at all interested in it i definitely recommend going to stonehenge! we stayed in london a few nights and did a day tour to stonehenge, bath and salisbury. stonehenge was amazing... just being there... and bath was gorgeous. it has the roman baths and was very cool. and there are a million and one things to do in london (i've been there twice now and have only seen a bit!) so i'm sure you'll have no problem finding fun things to do there. to get from ireland to scotland/england ryanair is what i used... it's a very very low-budget, no-frills airline... but it's fine, just make sure you pay attention to the luggage rules and check-in procedure or you'll find yourself being charged all kinds of fees at the airport! also, take advantage of the free walking tours: http://www.neweuropetours.eu/ there are apparently a few different companies but this one is the one i've heard the best things about. i did the edinburgh one and it was really great, our guide was so enthusiastic and it covered a lot of history and places... the london one is good as well although london isn't very walkable so you'll only see a chunk of the city. the site says there's one in dublin as well so you might want to check that one out... free stuff is always good! these tours are like 3 hours and there are ones that are pretty much identical that cost money so they're great. anyway hope my suggestions helped. have a great time! i've really
enjoyed being over here and i'm kind of sad to be heading back to the u.s. in a few days.

Dont waste your time here in Scotland in Edinburgh, the people are horrible, its nice for a day but make sure you go to Glasgow, its got a great music scene
and nightlife and the shopping is a millions times better than Edinburgh.

insomniachollie wrote: Which description? Mine? I purposely left it out, because my sister will have already been to Wales before I meet up with her... Thank you Broomykisser! (and everyone else who gave suggestions!) Yes, we are thinking of stopping in Glasgow, and maybe Cork- but I have no idea what's in Cork, so I need to research. |
