Possibly. But if I do become a mother, I'll probably adopt.

Every day there's some post on this board where you're arguing some stupid argument where you're in the wrong and never admit to it. In this case, the hell with it. If you want to be in excruciating pain because you're still a virgin...so be it. |

You have at least had a pelvis exam right? Think of that pain, times a thousand. That shit doesn't go in there easily.

Decide on your own. But trying to put mine in was pure TORTURE. I took a Lortab and ibuprofen 800 before I went to my appointment. I was 3 months postpartum,
so I was nice and stretched and the perfect "technical" candidate.
It felt like someone was sticking a knife into my ass and cutting upwards. They had to keep adjusting the damn cervix stabilizer and everytime they did that I felt like I was being stabbed again and again. I didn't make a peep during labor, and I was moaning and screaming during the insertion. To make things worse the damn things kept slipping out of me. They tried 3 different IUDs. I begged them after the second one not to try again, but they promised they didn't have to reposition the stabilizer again, they lied. The pain actually compared to when I was in labor, and in some ways it was worse. They finally decided I wasn't going to be able to hold it in after the 3rd attempt. That night I was cramping really badly, and I was just completely down mentally. I posted about it on here that night. My husband and I were counting on the IUD's and now I cringe at the thought of them. I can't take birth control pills or any hormones for that matter. So, we're down to condoms and timing. If you're a virgin, talk to your drs about other options. If it was that hard for me after having a baby, and a cervix that was used to being dilated, imagine how it could be for you. |

We talked during my appointment and she said that she can do the IUD if I really want it but the implant would be less painful for me. I'm not sure what
I'll do but I was 100% sold on the IUD before she stared telling horror stories. Now, I'm 50/50, so I'm definitely taking her opinion into account.

You need to find a new doctor. He/she doesn't sound experienced with the IUD. The more experience the doctor has with inserting them, the easier it will
go. I was a virgin when I got my IUD and it was fine. It hurt, like a big cramp, and then it was over. But really, the doctor needs to have experience and
yours doesn't sound like he does.
Search google for IUD divas - it's a livejournaland has tons of info and girls talking about everything about IUDs and a lot of info. I'm glad I got mine. I never have to worry about birth control (for another 7 years!) |

I've had the Mirena for a little over two years now and I love it. I've never had kids and I didn't take any pain relievers beforehand so the
insertion totally sucked, and I spotted for about a month after that with some pretty bad cramping but it was totally worth it. I don't have any periods at
all now, I still very very rarely get some cramping/spotting but nothing bad. I had the pill & the patch before this and this is by faaaaar my favorite.

I have had the Mirena for 3 years now and I like shortcakexo love it! I have never had children either. I took a couple Advil before and they gave me something
else after. It sucked but after about 12 hours I wasn't in pain anymore. I freaking love it because I never get a period...maybe spot one or 2 days a month
but that's it. I might get a cramp every once in awhile but it's totally worth the pain.
I like to think giving birth is a lot more pain so I could deal with the IUD insertion. |

It's amazing how many people in here are trying to tell the OP about IUDs when they obviously don't have a clue what they're talking about.

Shy4chey wrote:It hurt that much and they continued the insertion? Why didn't you speak up and say stop? Everything I read and was told before making the decision indicated cramps and discomfort but nothing that would require flippin' Lortab for pain. What the hell was your doc doing? |

Have sex, then go on birth control. Seems like the right order...

I don't see an issue with getting on birth control first either. It is more the choice of birth control and the fact that it seems like she isn't even
looking right now that is weird to me. Like, I did go on BC before I started having sex, but it was when I started dating around (and specifically one person)
and knew that I wanted to be sexually active soon. Not when I was still not even dating or looking. But, I guess quickfire sex may happen if you meet someone
really fast and don't have time for a gyno visit???

Yeah, BC is not an issue beforehand. Although getting an IUD seems a bit over the top.
Also, the IUD is only cheaper over a long period of time. Most insurance companies only partially cover (if at all) the cost of the IUD and even fewer cover the cost of insertion. You may end up paying $300 out of pocket just for the insertion of the IUD, nevermind the cost of the device itself. Mirena does not really save money either. It only lasts 3-5 years as opposed to the Paragard which can last up to 10. My doctor told me Mirena would not save me anymore money in the long or short term over using regular BC pills because it only lasts up to 5 years (usually only 3), the cost of insertion, and the cost of the IUD. |

I agree that getting on birth control first is a good idea. Always protect yourself.
But honestly, if you are a virgin I don't think an IUD is a good idea. I would think that shit would hurt like a bitch just with never having kids, but to never had sex, you are going to so sensitive to the pain. I don't think it is a good idea, but it is your body. Good luck! |
