I'm confused b/c here, a debit card is your banking card. You can use it for Interac (requires a 4-digit PIN) or you can access your bank account at an ATM. But you can't make online purchases with it.

Posts: 11285 (08/12/2009 11:16 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Yeah, you can use your debit card online just like a credit card. They have the 3-digit security code just like credit cards. At stores, you can use it with your bank PIN or run it as a credit card. It's versatile!

No one is to ask for the four digit PIN....ever. The three digit code on the back of the card is what is used for online purchases.

If given the option, I'd still use my CC for everything. I earn points, plus if an e-retailer rips me off, I can contest the charges (not that that's ever happened, but just in case).

I have a credit card and then a debit card issued by mastercard. For me, both earn rewards at the same rate as they're issued by the same bank. The benefit of the debit card is that you're not using credit...it's cash even when you choose "credit" at the point of sale. I also have a credit card for emergencies and such.

Debit cards are both in one card, so you can use it either way.

You can use this like a credit card. My bank issues a plain debit card that doesn't function like a credit. They're useless but they issue them.

I can use my debit card as "debit" and I will put in my 4 digit pin at the store I'm purchasing from and the money will come out of my account right away. Or I can use the same card as "credit" and the money will take a few days to come out. It's good because some stores (such as online retailers) only take credit cards. So that's when I would use the card as credit. But most stores in the US have PIN pads at the register that we can input our 4 digit number. I don't know if that's how it is in Canada.

We do accept credit AND debit cards from all over the world. Debit card transactions are instant. When you choose credit, it takes a few days to post. That's what I was told by my teller at the bank. It only debits instantly if you enter in your PIN number. If you place an order online with an internet company you usually can't enter a PIN number, so it will take a couple days to post to your account, like with a credit card.
