It's a little bit gory. I mean, I haven't seen anything that makes me want to puke yet lol

That scene was seriously intense but it sets up the whole movie and it's a damned good movie!

You watch movies to escape from reality for a few hours, not to be bombarded with shit that actually happens in real life. That's why I normally stick with rom-coms! Why does the ratings board allow it? I watched a documentary about them and they seemed kind of anti-women. They allow brutal rapes to be shown in movies, but cut out scenes in which women are in a state of pleasure. Like a movie with Jane Fonda back in the day. All it showed was her face and she was obviously getting oral, but they didn't show that. She just had a look of pleasure on her face and the ratings board thought that was too much! |

It's a pretty widely known fact that there is a rape scene in Last House on the Left.
Same thing with gay sex! Are you talking about This Film is Not Yet Rated? I love that movie. |

Idk why you'd be offended as a woman. It IS a rape scene, they aren't glamorous. IF anything it seems you'd be offended by American Pie and the
'exploitation' of the female form. Women are always expected to drop the towel, men it gets a WAY tough rating or is 'comedy'.

Yeah, that's it, Superhero. I also thought they were ridiculous when it came to gay sex. The one they used in the Doc., both women were totally clothed,
but the ratings board still had a problem with it. WTH?!

whitgirl09 wrote: I find that offensive to. There is way too much female nudity in movies, where's all the naked guys?! But I've watched movies that had rape scenes in them, and it was completely unnecessary. They just threw it in there either for "entertainment" or to disrespect women. They need to rate rape. Not all movies with rape list it in the ratings grid. I wouldn't watch a movie if that was in the rating. |

Actually too...the original was FAR more graphic and disturbing and they toned a lot of the graphic violence down, or cut it out entirely. The original was
more shoddily made and acted, but that almost made the rape scenes [there was more than one] worse, somehow.

I actually cried at that scene the first time I saw it. Now I just leave the room or FF past it.

Rape scenes in general make me sick...but I heard this one is especially bad. One of many reasons I'll never see this movie.

PoetryNjcEyes wrote: Movies are an art form and most filmmakers use film to express that or to make a statement. Movies aren't just to let the viewer escape from reality. In fact, most filmmakers try to shove the bad stuff right up in your face in order to make you FEEL something or feel for the characters. If that's not what you want, maybe you should stick to only one genre or PG rated films. |

The most disturbing scene I have ever seen was in the movie 'In the Gardens of the Night' and the rape was never shown on camera it was simply implied. The scene that is shown is of a little girl crying on the bed afterward and to me that was more powerful than if they had shown the actual rape. |

I think filmmakers should be allowed to use whatever they feel necessary to craft an art whether it makes JJbers uncomfy or not.

Mistress Darcy wrote: Basically. Let the director decide whats necessary or needed in their film. For the record, I watched the scene the OP is referring to. It was very well done and definitely made me uncomfortable and feel for the girl. However, no rape scene I have ever seen tops Jodie Foster in The Accused. That scene was brutal, disgusting, very uncomfortable etc. Joanathan Kaplan definitely threw that one right in your face and didn't let up on you at all. You're forced to sit there and watch the entire, long, drawn out thing and it makes you angry at how many people saw or knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it. That scene will make you feel something whether you want to or not. Kudos to Jodie and Jonathan Kaplan on that one. |
