Long story short - my cat was lost for two months, came back with fleas. Put the flea stuff on her, didn't work. Now the place is infested ish, more so in
our roommates' room than ours. We keep using a spray which kills the fleas, but doesn't seem to reach the eggs effectively.
So what would you recommend? Is there anything all natural that actually works? Because I hate all of these chemicals... |

Put Revolution on your cat. It's like Frontline but better. You can also get Capstar from our vet which will kill any live fleas on your cat instantly.
We've used powder on the carpets. Dump a ton of that stuff on the carpet, let it set a while and then vacum up. It's worked for us when foster kittens infested us with fleas. |

We actually don't have carpets. Hardwood floors, no rugs. The fleas have gotten into our own bedding! The roommates have them all over their stuff.. though
I don't know how, because ours is no where near as bad....

Well the only thing i can think of is to treat it like a lice problem. You'll have to wash EVERYTHING cloth that a flea could ppssibly hide in - or put it
in garbage bags, seal them tight and keep them like that for 2 weeks until all of the fleas are dead. You'll have to do this to everything in the house.
I don't really know if that will work or not, but when I got lice from my daycare when I was little that's what we had to do. It's a major pain in the ass. |

You have to do everything at once... otherwise the fleas will just jump from another area and re-infect what you just did.

If you're looking for a quick fix baking soda will run them out.

Really?! Baking soda straight?! I'd rather put baking soda all over everything... then a flea powder! I know it won't kill the eggs though, will it?
And yeah, I like that idea.. all in the trash bags for two weeks until they die. When I had lice as a little kid I think we did something like that.. and I remember washing a lot... ugh, it just sucks. But I'm going to tell my roommate to put a bunch of her clothes in trash bags now... |

Not a bunch - you want to put EVERYTHING in there. Otherwise like someone else said - they'll just hide somewhre else and you'll never get rid of them.
Your stuff and the roomate's stuff. |

Someone told me once to use Borax soap. I put it all over my floors and let it sit for a while, then cleaned it up. Also I washed all the bedding with it.
Never have had an issue since.

I tried the Raid fumigator, put 3 in my house, because it was AWFUL. They were everywhere thanks to a cat that no longer even lived there! I don't blame
the cat obviously, but his ridiculous owner. And then I put powder all over the carpet. Didn't kill the suckers though. So I went full force and just
did 4 bombs. Gone. Every last one of them. I know you don't like chemicals, but I found it to be the best way to go. I couldn't deal and I needed
them out, STAT!!!!!!! It was such a creepfest.

I like the idea for the Borax soap for the hardwood floors.. This weekend shall be a fun endeavor... but yeah, We're going to put EVERYTHING in bags except
for a couple of things that we'll simply wash right away and just have to wear the same thing for a couple weeks.
Yeah, but I've been using this spray, and I think my cat has gotten sick from it a couple times... so I'd really like to stay away from bombing! I'm going to try the long term approach, with trash bags, baking soda, and some borax on the floors. I'll probably still use the spray on the furniture.. I found an all natural one that works well on petsmart.com according to reviews. |

Bombs are the only thing that will kill them all, and fast. Put frontline on the cat and bomb the entire place.

You don't want to leave the cat in there when you set off the bombs and if the cat comes back in with fleas, it will start the problem all over again. |

I know straight baking soda works because when our dog was a puppy, the vet told us to rub some of that on him and around the house, especially his bed,
because he was too young for front line. We put front line on him now, and I sprinkle baking soda around on my furniture and rugs about once a week. I live in
FL and we have nasty little sand fleas that will overrun your home if you don't treat your house once a week. We also get our yard fumigated about every 6
months. But in FL there is really no way to get rid of them outside.

OH totally meant to say, take the cat outside!!! Of course!!! When I did it a long time ago, I took my cat, and we left the house for 6 hours while she got
dipped and medicated. Then we returned, I vacuumed up a million repulisive DEAD flees and we were good to go. Cat outide is a MUST, and I've been told
the Borax thing too. But that was after I'd spent money on the fumigators and some expensive powder and waited 5 days to see results. I was over it, so I
bombed the hell outta my place. Bye bye fleas!

Flea infestations are insane this summer. We had them for months. Tried all the home remedies. The only thing that finally kicked it was getting Revolution for
the cats.
ETA: DON'T use any pet flea sprays from Walmart. They hurt our cats. And be careful if the cat is around the borax, it's bad for them. We had to put plastic over our carpets and let the borax kill the fleas then vacuum it really well.

You'll have to treat your cat with Revolution once a month for at least 2 months but I'd go longer. Get a Capstar also as someone suggested. After you
put the Revolution on, don't coop your cat up somewhere, let him roam the apartment. He'll shed the medication into the environment and treat your
apartment at the same time. That will help.
