They gave me Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I read the reviews online and everyone gains tremendous weight. Some chick gained TWENTY POUNDS IN A MONTH. Makes me not wanna take it. Who's been on this? Or on a BC that won't cause you to gain weight?
So I have a free year's supply of birth control

My first advice would be to not read the online reviews of BC. When I was first prescribed Yaz, I googled it and read nothing but HORROR stories! The reality
was that I had a little nausea for a week and have maybe gained 5 lbs in the last year.

I always get my BC for free from PP.

I've read in a lot of places that women on BC only develop 60% of the muscle women not on it develop when exercising, which is probably also why it's harder to lose weight. But if you're careful about your diet and keep exercising when you start, you shouldn't gain the weight in the first place! |

Yeah the 20 pound story didn't make sense to me, since it has a lower dose of hormones than other pills.
And PP gives it free. Along with two boxes of Plan B and a box of condoms. Some brand I've never heard of though-- not Durex or Trojan. I don't know anyone who had to pay for their BC there. |

My sister takes it and she's tiny. They gave me Ortho Novum 7/7/7 which is a much higher dose of hormones and I gained about 10 pounds, but it was also my
first year of college, so I can't blame that 10 pounds just on the BC.

Yeah, no one is going to bother writing in about BC that worked out just fine for them.
I don't think it's normal to gain that much from BC no matter what the brand. |

Online stories are always horror stories, yet I can't stop reading them, and then I get really paranoid

Just try it. You can always switch to something else. Women blame everything on birth control.

Exactly! It gives you a healthy pregnant lady body... except the point is that I DON'T WANT TO BE PREGNANT.

I lost weight on Ortho-Lo, so there's hope! I'm actually going back on it (the generic version this time though) soon, after being on Femcon Fe for a
few months. I'm hoping to go back to feeling normal.

Unless I'm mistaken, BC pills cannot make you gain weight. The hormones might increase your appetite, but you don't have to respond to the urge to eat. I think this is a common misconception and deterrent for those who want to take contraceptives, and it's unfortunate because the benefits of taking it typically outweigh the risks. So, in short, many people take BC pills - even Ortho Tri-Cyclen (and the generic versions) - and don't gain weight. |

The hormones can make you hang on to weight you gain, but no, they themselves don't make you gain weight. I think most women want to eat more on BC so they
do gain weight, and it's harder to lose it. BUT if you watch what you eat, especially during the first few months when you're adjusting to the new
hormones, you should be okay.
