Here's a video of birds trapped in Hurricane Rita's eye. You'll have to scroll down to the bottom of the blog entry.

That's amazing.. poor birdies! They are smart though by staying in the calm of the eye until the storm weakens.

I found this touching video and it just brought back the memories of living 16 days without power...hope never to go thru that again.

I got to make my own videos during Ike. The worst part of the storm hit about 4am and all the electricity was out. So not good conditions for taking video
because there was no light inside or out.

I hate it when hurricanes hit at night. Nothing more terrifying.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Ike terrifying but it was really creepy. We slept on the floor in the half bathroom downstairs so we wouldn't be near
any glass. We finally got tired around 1:00am and went to sleep.
I woke up around 4am to what sounded like a freight train with something I can best describe as a chain or table saw every couple minutes. All the electricity was out and it was pitch black. No moon, no street lights, no car lights, nothing. Even if I had decided to go near the windows I wouldn't have been able to see anything anyway. I stayed in the bathroom though because that seemed like the safest idea. When I got up that morning and could actually see something I figured out the source of the saw noise. The wind was going along the windows on the back side of the house and vibrating the metal window screens in unison. It was a really unsettling noise. Then we had no electricity for 8 days and traffic was terrible for a good 2 weeks because it took them awhile to fix all the traffic signals. Luckily we have a gas water heater so I could at least take hot showers. We lost all the food in our fridge and the last few days without A/C were miserable. |
