That made me sad, thinking of my cat. She was ill and we knew it wouldn't be long. We actually left on vacation and while we were gone she passed. My
neighbor was watching her (and our other 2) and I guess he was there when she died. He said she just laid there and stopped breathing. I was so pissed because
I guess my mom had told him to just take care of it if it happened, meaning he buried her at their rural property. I guess he'd called and left a message
but we were in flight and she didn't get the message til we got home. We came home and searched and she wasn't there...then my mom got the message. I
was so angry I had to leave for a few hours. In the end though, I think Bunny (the cat) kind of wanted it that way. She'd been acting weird for awhile and
trying to escape to the garage (she was always an indoor cat). So I think she held off and waited for us to leave. I know that's weird to say, but I swear
that's what she did. She had a good 17 years, and I still miss her...can't even think about the other 2 going, and they're 14/15. Ugh.

My 18 year old dog, that we'd had for 15 years, had to be put asleep 2 years ago. She had survived breast cancer, and she got to the point that she
couldn't even walk anymore, or really move. So we called our vet and he actually made a house call (which surprised the shit out of me). And my dad held
her in his arms, my mom, sisters, nieces and I were sitting with our backs turned as he started to put her to sleep. Then we all held her as she passed away.
Hardest thing, man, hardest thing. But i'm just so grateful that the vet did it at our house, the house that my dog loved and knew with the family she
loved and knew.

You wanna talk about sad stories. I was working at a vet office a few years ago, when a man came into our kennel area and said his dog was in his car and it
needed assistance. I grabbed the doggy strecher with another employee, and as we are walking out to the car, the guy is all like "sorry about the maggots,
sorry about the maggots"- and I'm thinking "wtf is he talking about?". Get to the car, and the Husky is laying with her eyes clothes in the
back seat, breathing so shallow that I thought she was dead at first. Then I noticed what the guy was talking about, there were maggots everywhere, all over
her body, feeding off her, but she was still alive! The dog had had a hemmorage (sp?) and the man just left her outside for days, and he was trying to convince
me that she was running around and playing earlier in the day. And this is was did it for me, when they opened the dogs eyes to check its pupils- they were
gone (eaten by the maggots). That poor dog was suffering & being eaten on for days, maybe even a week. As soon as they saw the eyes, the Vet made the man
leave the room & drew a syringe to euathenize, the man said he wanted to stay with the dog while he passed, and the Doc said "No". I'm glad
he didn't let that piece of shit stay with that poor dog. I quit my job that day, I had seen enough.

^^ What a piece of shit. Your vet should've taken pictures of that dog, done a post-mortem, and given that to animal control to prosecute. The man who
brought the dog in obviously knew he was wrong if he was apologizing.
I shouldn't be able to believe that things like that happen, but I know they do. I've (unfortunately) seen it, too. |

Okay and now I'm sad, sad, sad imagining the time when I'll have to do this with Pinnie Lou. She's so afraid of the Vet now (funny enough it's
not because of shots, it's becaue they once clipped her nails), so I can imagine how scared she'd be during that time. There's no way I
wouldn't be there holding her paw or all of her.
Thanks you all, thanks

and i do not know why some people think that animals, especially our pets do not have any feelings! they are living breathing things god damnit. if you've
ever pet a cat in your life you've most likely heard it purr, that means it's enjoying something. if you've played with a dog you know when they
bring you back the ball they are having fun and want to keep doing it. they have emotions too, they get enjoyment out of things just like we do. this kind of
shit breaks my heart. our family has a 14 year old shitzu that has been declining in health for a year or so. hes ok but not great. i will be there when the
time comes that he is either going to pass soon or my mom will have to put him down. i cannot for the life of me figure our how someone could just abandon
their pet like that. this just makes me cry

I was there with my cat when they put her to sleep. It was so bad that I really wish I could erase that memory from my mind. As much as I want to be there for
my pet, it was so awful that I don't know that I'd want to do that again willingly. Plus my cat was in a lot of pain and was out of it in general. I
don't know that she really noticed I was there at the time.

I don't mean to bump this too much. I meant to reply last night, but fell asleep.
My dog wasn't put too sleep, he actually passed away at my house. He was with us for 12 years, and he knew it was his time. I sat on the floor a few feet away from him, because I knew something was wrong, and he walked over to me, and he laid in my lap with his eyes looking up at me, and that's when he went. It was heartbreaking, and I'll never forget it. |

Oh god
I seriously tear up thinking about the day when my cats are going to die. I dont think I could go in the room, it would be too hard. I just wouldnt
be able to watch the doctor put the needles in them. But I hope somebody will be in there when my cats go
