I fell in love with that area on my NYC trip. It was so adorable...especially the area right over by 'Carrie Bradshaw's' apartment.

Yeah, I actually looked at some places on craigslist just to get a general idea and the prices were what I expected. I don't think it was too insane, but
I'm from CA where real estate prices are ridiculous...especially where I live now, it's extremely comparable to NYC. So I guess in that aspect it's
good...no culture/price shock or anything haha.
But I'm definitely planning on moving to NYC in about 2 years or so, so I was looking at a lot of other apartments on craigslist in different neighborhoods, and the upper east side had a lot of reasonably priced (well, for NYC) apartments. More so than the west village. I thought the upper east side was way expensive and what not...so I was confused when the west village seemed to be more expensive. |

xtinafan wrote:Well, I was only looking at studio's and 1 bedrooms because it would just be myself. Both places obviously went up well into the thousands per month, but on a more reasonable scale, the west village had some good ones for about 1450-1800 (and I'm picky...so these were nice looking ones with new floors, new kitchens, etc), and the upper east side had a lot for around 1250-1300 or so. I loved NYC and I could definitely see myself living there. Everyone always says "it's not like what you see in the movies," but it was exactly like the movies to me lol. Maybe I'm just more realistic, so I went into NYC not expecting these "omg amazing" things. It was exactly what I thought it would be like, so that was a good thing. I could definitely see myself living there. Minus the snow. I don't know how I would deal with that... |

Well I guess the actual snow isn't what I'm worried about, but more so the cold. I get cold when it's 70 degrees. The coldest it gets where I grew
up is like 40 at night, and that's absolutely FREEZING to me.
Which, speaking of weather, NYC had the best weather this weekend! With the exception of Friday, it was so nice and warm and not humid, which I was surprised about. I thought the summers were filled with humidity in NYC. |

You definitely lucked out on that one. Whenever I go into the city it's gross and muggy... but you kind of get used to it, in a weird, unfortunate way.

I lived there for a summer and it wasn't gross or muggy to me? In fact, it only rained maybe 7-8 days the entire 3 months I was there
Maybe I had a
lucky summer |

This summer it hasn't been that bad, honestly, and this is the most I've been to the city in a long time but prior to this past year -- not counting
New Years', during which my boobs basically froze off my body -- my luck with weather in the city was piss poor
It either was on the verge of raining, or rained on me. Every. Time. |

I lived right by Carrie Bradshaw's apartment, only a few blocks away. I paid $1500 a month for a shithole, and it wasn't even the shittiest of
shitholes. My friend lived down the block actually just around the corner from Carrie's apartment and she paid $1800 for a shithole studio. I used to say,
if you're going to move to New York, move to the West Village. Now I say Gramercy.
I highly doubt the apartments you were looking at were actually that price. I have never, ever heard of something that reasonably priced that wasn't a total dump. |

Holy shit, that's not even much more expensive than here. ugh. But Kelly, are you going to be able to afford that on your own?

And Kelly, don't you live with your parents, lol? Why would you be used to a certain real estate price when you haven't even lived on your own?

I have a friend who lives in the West Village over by the Carrie Bradshaw area
while I think its adorable over there, i like my East Village better, namely because I hate the subway lines on the Westside |

Yeah, but does it have new floors and renovated kitchens?
I hate the Subway lines, or should I say line, on the East side. |

I lived in Perry street for a short while, and at first I didnt understand why there were always tourists taking pictures of that one house a little further, but then I heard something about sex and the city being shot there or whatever lol It was pretty amusing, especially since I never watch that show and don't give a crap |
