What about SoHo? What's the deal with that area? My friend and I went to a bar over there (O'Neils I think it's called? It was "Scout" in
Sex and the City), and everyone in there was like 22-23. I felt so old. I know it was just one bar but from then on I imagined everyone in SoHo being really
young.

Hell's Kitchen/Clinton is a great area with cheap places. My friend has a 1-bdrm for $1600
The restaurants are so great in that area too. I seriously have pretty much ordered everything on the Eatery menu. Stuffed Toast

I find that Murray Hill is slightly less douchey and a little more "grown-up" in the sense that those living there aren't living off a trust

I could never live there unless I was very rich. With 2 kids, we would def need a 3 bedroom! I don't even want to know how much a decent 3 bedroom would
be!

My friend and I were recently talking about moving to NYC in the next couple of years because that is where I ultimately want to end up. I was thinking the
West Village area too. It is definitely my favorite area in NYC.

What would be the best neighborhood for a single woman in her late 20's who doesn't want constant partying and noise at all hours of the night but who
still wants options as far as entertainment and recreation goes? And I would be willing to spend up to $1500-1800 a month.
I was thinking Upper East Side or the West Village but the Village seems majorly expensive and the Upper East Side has some transport issues. However, it's NYC so I'm willing to sacrifice! |

The prices are good, not much partying noise and there is always something out your front door to do. Maybe Nolita would be nice for you too, closer to Broadway without all the noise. |

sunCONJUNCTmoon wrote:See my post above. Hell's Kitchen is quiet, tons of restaurants and "cheap". It's also a super easy commute to anywhere in the city. I would aim for 45th to 52nd and stick to between 8th Ave to 10th Ave. 10th Ave and onward can get to be a bit shady. Oh, and Chelsea is also a good place to find deals. |

Thanks. I was in NYC in June for a week and I was ALLLL over most of Manhattan and some of Brooklyn too. The only place I did not really see much of was the
Lower East Side other than Katz Deli. I never got to deep into it though. I'll start researching it and next time I go I will have to check it out!

Hold on! Hell's Kitchen is quiet? I never woulda thought it because isn't that in Midtown? I guess I just automatically thought everything around that
area would be noisy even though it's a great location. Thanks for the info on that!

sunCONJUNCTmoon wrote: Yep. That area is very residential. Take a walk on 9th Ave, btwn 45 and 55 during the weekend and it's just couples and families going to brunch and walking around. Pls it's a relatively short distance (15 min walk) to Central Park without paying the sky-high rents. I'm planning on moving back into the city next summer and that's definitely on my short list along with Chelsea, Gramercy/Flatiron, and certain parts of Bklyn. |

If you are looking in the UES on Craigslist, be careful. I don't suggest going above the 90th st. To reinforce what was said earlier, craigslist is alot of
lies for NYC housing. I've used craigslist for two apt's now and it took ALOT of apt viewings for me to find something that was actually what it said
it was. I'm not kidding, even when the broker or owner posted videos of the place!
I was going to live in Manhattan in May and it just ended up not being plausible and ended up in Astoria kind of by accident and i'm SO happy here. It's a great area and it's basically like I live in Manhattan for a lot less rent. You may also want to consider Long Island City as well, there are TONS of new buildings that are gorgeous. I'm talking balconies and floor to ceiling windows with views of Manhattan. |
