I'm sorry, but I think its rude for them to be working with you and having a discussion with someone else in another language.
Why are Asian salon people so rude?

You mean they actually talked to you in English??? I figured they would just talk about you in their language.
I can't stand it when they talk back and forth and you can't understand them.

I've never had them say anything to me to my face, but I did overhear them making fun of an overweight woman one time. They all kept making comments to her
about if she was trying to look nice to find a date, and then they would laugh amongst each other. I found it to be rude. They didn't mind taking her money
though!

I think it's rude when my friends start talking in a different language and they don't even translate.

Yeah, some Asians are just very critical and blunt. One time, my Asian friend (lets call her Ana) came home to visit her family after moving to a diff. state,
and some of them were all like "Ana, you got fat!" or "Omg, you got dark; what have you been doing?" and they didn't even mean it in a
bad way.
I've never been insulted by salon people, though. They either like to compliment me or just stay kind of quite. |

I was getting a hair cut and the stylists were talking to each other. Another time, different place, she was bullshitting with one of her friends. The one started to come at me with scissors without asking how I wanted it done. All of them were American and I could understand them and I realize that some of them are friends and want to talk, but they should also try talking to their customers. |

It was somewhat uncomfortable b/c she was being loud but it was funny, too. I was thinking, thank you for making me feel sad now for not having a man. |

Lol, they did mean it a bad way. In Asian culture to be dark is to be ugly.

OhManImScrewed wrote:My point is that we are judging them by our American standards and we sometimes expect a little too much from people who came from a very different way of life and attitude which is ingrained in them. So, when immigrants do something we would consider rude, I wish people would understand that it's not always intended that way. Sometimes foreigners just don't know any better. In the same token, if one of us were to go to a foreign country and didn't know everysinglething about the culture and ways, I'm certain that there'd bound to be opportunity to unintentionally offend folks. In some countries, it's rude to not take your shoes off before entering someone's home. My old psych prof said something about how once someone from another country came to his home and put their shoes or feet up on his table and my prof was so offended but then later realize that in that man's country, this is the custom and was appropriate. He just didn't know it was considered rude here. Never meant any ill. I'm not saying we should tiptoe around it or not be bothered at all if you repeatedly notice this kind of behavior, I'm just saying for people to try not to let it get to them. Try to put yourself in their shoes. It's probably not intentional. Whoever said "it is a cultural thing. I wish more people would grasp this concept and not be so quick to make generalizations about other races" had it right. Not that you did. I just mean in general. FWIW, I was pretty much agreeing with you said before |
