I came here at the beginning of the month asking what I can do for my homeroom on their birthdays - and someone had an idea about getting them candy. So I had
them all write down their favorite candy on the first day of school, and on their birthday I give them a normal size candy bar - not the mini size stuff. And
they love it! Their parents came in on back to school night all saying how excited their son/daughter is to have that candy on their birthday

You teach like first grade right? Because if a high school kid is getting excited over a full sized candy bar...

I think she teaches high schoolers. And don't knock it...I would have been excited to get one in high school

I would be happy to get a candy bar on my birthday now and I'm turning 21 in Nov.

I think it's cool that you get your favorite kind. So you know your teacher was thinking about you outside of class for the few minutes it took to find and
buy the right candy bar.

No, I teach high school. In the school I work, we have our homeroom for 9 - 12 grade, so these are 9th graders right now.
The summer birthdays are going to get something - in June. I think that I'll dedicate a certain day to each instead of just lumping them together all at once. |

Dude, doesn't matter what the age is....candy is always an exciting thing. We were bribed with candy right up until we graduated HS and it always worked
wonders.
Hell, even now in college, when students give out food/chocolate/candy during lesson plan presentations, we all get overly excited. |

A lot of college professors bribe students with candy.

our summer birthdays got celebrated on our half birthdays.
though with a birthday on June 9, whoever picked me had trouble deciding if it was okay to wait until June. I liked the year they did my twin's on December 9 and mine in June. 2 bdays!

My birthday always fell on Spring Break
, so make sure to account for
kids whose birthdays fall on weekends or holidays too!

Wow. You're lucky you can give away the candy. In my district we'd never be allowed to give away candy. We have this healthy food policy that has taken
away the teacher's ability to use food as prizes/rewards in school.

Plus we have him after math and he knows we need it. I always make sure when I'm doing a lesson plan presentation to bring some sort of food- we love it! If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - I brought in cookies, The Giving Tree - apples, Halloween Equivalent Fraction bingo - candy corn as the pieces, etc. Our class ranges in from early 20's to late 40's so I really don't think age and food is an issue. |
