Rape is rape. There isn't different forms of rape. Rape in having sex without consent. The victim's testimony said she said no. This man plead GUILTY
and left the country cause he knew he was done..how can ANYONE justify that?

They are probably telling themselves that the victim wants this dropped, so it should be dropped.

Well, it's easy to say they'd have a different tune if it happened to their child, but how victims and their family react to crime isn't always
straightforward. If the victim and her family aren't pursuing this, if they think it should be over, then why should we assume that the people who support
Polanski (and the victim's wishes) would feel differently if the victim were their family?
The poor girl said that the courts have caused her far more pain that Polanski ever did. What he did was sick, and wrong but I'm not surprised, given her feelings on this, that many people are willing to support having the matter dropped. |

Not legally. It's statutory rape which is still punishable but it's an important distinction.

I think that's what people are forgetting. A forty something old man does not have sex with a 13 year old girl. It's not possible. Even if it was all her idea and she wanted to have sex with him it's still rape. The law clearly states that adults do not have sex with children. He broke the law. Twice. Once by raping a child and the second time by fleeing his sentence. I think the real question is going to be whether or not new charges will come up for him fleeing the country. |

Jeremy Irons isn't surprising b.c he starred in that movie with Dominique Swain called "Lolita" where his character had sexual relations with a
13/14 year old girl.
I am shocked about Natalie Portman though... Wow. |

Rape isn't just rape in a court system. Unfortunately, he wasn't even charged for rape-his actual charge is unlawful sex with a minor
There are
many different categories of sexual offense charges and even rape charges and the distinctions are important. But, what disturbs me about this is he should
have gotten a harsher sentence than "unlawful sex"-like, what type of court just gave him that??
