Can you guys help with advice for my little sister? |

My sister is in a photojournalism class (shes a sophmore), and my brother was being stupid and he exposed her film. The projects are due on Monday and today
she raised her hand in class and asked the teacher if she could maybe stay after today and tomorrow to catch up. He told her "I don't see why i have
to be punished and stay after because you couldn't complete your work. Come by during a free period." She would do that...but she goes to the lit
center during her free periods to work on a huge essay with tutors. Do you think this is right? Shouldn't teachers be willing to stay after to help
students? I told her maybe she should go to her counselor and tell her what happened...but I dunno...what do you guys think? This isn't the first time this
teacher has been an ass she says...

So he should loose his free time because your brother is an ass? It sucks but you have to think it's his free time. Maybe he has plans.

Teachers don't have to stay after class, but I think that's a pretty crappy thing for a teacher to say to a student. It sounds like she's going to
have to give up a day in the lit center and go in then.

Think about it this way...technically she can do the essay anytime, anywhere. There is probably only one place she knows or has access to for developing film.
And yes, it will mean one less day in the lit center, but, oh well. Choices need to be made. Teachers do NOT have to accommodate for brother's mistakes.
(But it would have been nice for him to stay an extra bit.)

I would be able to understand the teacher being upset if she just didnt do her work, but she did do it, its not her fault your her brother did that. But she
did do the work and now she is trying to make an effort to re-do the work, which I find empressive.
On one hand I do think the teacher should stay, but on the other hand if he really isnt willing to stay then your sister needs to do everything she can to get it done herself, maybe then the teacher can see how commited she is and maybe not be such an ass nest time. |

As a teacher myself, we're not required to stay after classes. Yes, it sucks that stuff happened, but it's not his fault your bro is an ass and effed
up her film. She may need to just give up a period in the lit center to get her assignment done.

I'm a teacher and I can't stay after for students. Not now anyway while I have child care issues. The school doesn't pay me to stay after,
therefore if I do, it's more money out of my pocket for sitters. She needs to take the time and go during the free period. I do the same thing with my
students. I am not telling them I won't help them but I am definitly not working around their schedule. If they need the help so badly, they will find a
way.

She should go during her free period. How does the teacher know for sure that she even did the project in the first place? (Lots of kids lie about why they
haven't completed their projects)

Depending on how long she's had to work on the project will also determine if the teacher is willing to help. It's due in only two days and she has yet to make any prints off the film?? Prints are the hardest/most time consuming part. I guess now she'll learn to start things earlier to allow for a silly brother. |

Well like I said, if she shows that she is a really commited student then the teacher might be more pron to helping her, teacher dont want to feel like they
are wasting there time with some one who is just trying to do the bare minmune and trying to pass with a C or a D. and I know that techers dont get paid for
staying after class, but my teachers never had any problem helping me with anything, and that was because I was always a good student!
