Do you like it there? Tell me all about it. (Don't worry about the weather thing...that's one of the reasons it's on my list. I want COLD
weather and SNOW. I'm a cold-hearted woman.)

I live in a surburb of Minneapolis. I wouldnt recommend living in the city. If youre into the outdoors, Minnesota will be great for you. There are tons of
running and walking trails. The cost of living isnt bad if you dont live in the city. I wil write more when Im not on my phone but let me know what questions
you have. I just moved here last February without ever having been here before.

Can you tell me about the cost of living there? Apartments/Housing? Social scene? Economy?

Why do you advise against living in the city?

well for me personally the city is expensive and a bit scary for a single female. I live in a one bedroom, 813sqft, washer/dryer, central air/heat for 895. All
i pay for is heat, electricty and my cable. I live about 15 mins outside the city. Nightlife is pretty good. Theses every kind of club bar you could have. We
also have all four major sports.

apartments are 800-1200 for a 2 bedroom i'd say. social scene is good, thats why i ask why would you not want to live in the city? economy seems ok, i
still know people finding new jobs all the time.

I wouldn't live in downtown Minneapolis, but outside of the city is nice. Downtown is just very expensive and very loud/dirty/noisy/city-like.
The economy sucks everywhere. |

Are the schools good? Plenty of hospitals and healthcare jobs?

lives outside of the city

I was born and raised just out side of Minneapolis....the cost of living depends on where you live within Minneapolis, st paul, or a 'burb....I personally
wouldn't recommend living in the city because it is really expensive.
Apartments can range from 600-1500 bucks a month or more depending on where you are...As far as the economy goes, minnesota has been somewhat recession proof. We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country right now. there are plenty of places to go to eat/drink/club/ect in Minneapolis. Uptown area is one of my favorite areas because its mostly young people (like 20's) and its a causual scene. there are nicer places in downtown, but it can get expensive in downtown. I hope that makes sense, if it doesnt i can try to clarify. |

I agree with Jenga. Uptown is great, downtown is great for going out but I wouldnt live downtown

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the insight. So...lots and lots of snow, right? Snowy Decembers, too?

my first day in Minneapolis

Oh God. I grew up in VA and thought that having a white christmas here every year, guaranteed, would be SO NEAT.
The thing that shocked me most: when it first snowed, I didn't dust my shoes off before getting in my car. So I left snowy footprints in the floorboards. THEY NEVER WENT AWAY, ALL WINTER. THEY STAYED. THE SAME FOOTPRINTS. Because it never gets back above 0 til its all over. Don't move here - |
