How would you react if you walked into work to find out your boss had given the other girl(there's only 2 girls on the floor at my bar) 2 of your tables?
And it was for no good reason?

I would ask why. The only reason managers do that is if they think someone can't pick up slack. Not saying that's the reason though.

He/she didn't give you a reason why when you asked?

Maybe there is a reason. I guess I'd be mad if I was losing money. This is why I hate hostessing.. so much competition and anger over tables

I'd like to know the reason first before I comment.

At first, I asked him if there was going to be a third waitress, since one had trained yesterday. He said no, and that he was just giving the 2 tables to the
other girl, which says to me that he didn't think I could handle it.
I mean...this isn't even my shift. I'm only filling in until they find a new replacement. So, why would he even ask me to work another double if he didn't think I could handle it? And the fucked up part is that after the other girl got busy, he gave the two tables BACK to me because SHE couldn't handle it! |

I quit my last job because another server took my table and I said something to the manager about it and he didn't do anything about it. I told him I was
never coming back.

I would ask him to be honest and ask if he thought you were slacking on something so that you could fix it. He should at least give you an explanation for
taking money away from you.

If you're leaving the bar for another job, then he might have done that to test the ability of the other server. I mean she's going to be the one
working there, he's going to want to know how much she candle before she's in the weeds. Sounds like it was just a test for her and nothing against
you.

Okay I missed the part where you're quitting. Now it makes perfect sense and I can't say I would have expected anything else.

I'm not leaving. And there was no 3rd girl today. That was just my assumption. It was just me and one other girl. During the day, there's one bartender
and 2 waitresses. With the old bartender gone, one of the waitresses has been filling in behind the bar and I've been taking her spot on the floor. When he
asked me yesterday if I could come in today, he made it seem like all 3 of us were gonna be on the floor, so she could train another day without having to
worry about it being too busy for her.
It just upset me that I have been working at this place for over 2 1/2 years, and all of a sudden, he doesn't think I can handle it. I hate working day shifts. I'm much more suitable for nighttime. |

OH! I read what you said as they were looking for YOUR replacement.
Since you're working a double maybe he thought he'd go easy on you? |

Oh. Then yea why don't you just ask your boss about it? I can't believe you didn't say anything.

That would make sense, but why not tell me? And why just today? I've worked 3 doubles in the past week. Plus tons more throughout the year, due to one girl
leaving after having a baby and another just up and quitting in the spring.

Managers usually have reasons for what they do with sections. After years of being in the same "good" section, full of 6 tops, one of my managers put
me in this section that was all 2 tops. Also known as the newbie section.
I freaked out because I thought that meant he hated me or I did something wrong. Turns out I had worked 60 hours that week and he wanted me to be able to have an easy night. They expected a lot of 2 tops that night and he wanted me to be able to flip and he knew I could do it faster then anybody else. I would just ask. |
