Even though this isn't blackface, I've seen JJB get up in arms about halloween costumes and call them black face when it was a similar thing. Maybe
because it's Tyra doing it, it's okay.

I just watched this and OMG who cares. It was not a big deal at all. They painted people to look like all different races but we're all up in arms about
blackface? Stupid.

Do you reckon this controversy would be the same or worse if a white woman was the host? Would Kate Moss or whoever be allowed to do this?
Before anybody gets pissed with me, this is a genuine question and not me trying to say Tyra was wrong. I agree it's making a mountain out of a molehill - they're obviously trying to celebrate racial diversity, not mock the way blackface does. I just find it interesting |

Regardless of who did it, it's not blackface. It's skin pigmentation done for a very specific purpose, like RDJ's character in Tropic Thunder.
Blackface is intrinsically derogatory and done to mock a race.
I'd hope that no matter who was behind something like this, it wouldn't make a difference. |
