A few weeks ago they thought it was a cavity but when they started drilling realized it was deeper than that so they closed me up until today. He numbed me but as soon as the suction and drill started I could feel cold so he had to numb more...then more. Finally they've given enough novocaine to numb an elephant. He starts drilling and it's fine for about 2 minutes then he hits as nerve and it is the most excrutiating pain EVER. He ended up I guess having to numb the nerve and I thought the drilling was bad,but no, he sticks the needle in the nerve and I instantly started bawling, slobbering, snotting up and everything. It was SO painful. He had to go ahead and start drilling immediately afterward and it would be fine for a few minutes then there would be pain again. This went on for about 15 minutes. Him drilling, me feeling pain, him putting a needle into the nerve, me crying like 7 year old me. It turns out that when they first opened up the cavity I ended up with an infection. They said they should have put medicine in it and put me on antibodies but I wasn't feeling pain so they just figured the nerves were dead. Well, no, the nerves were HOT so the infection spread and was eating the novocaine so I was never really numb. They put medicine in, closed it back up and now I'm on antibodies until they can drill again. Good news (I guess) is that he got that nerve totally cleaned out so next time (whimpers) it won't be as bad. I am back at work now but I've bursted out in tears a couple of times just thinking of the pain. My dentist was so nice and he felt bad but damn, next time knock me the eff out.

I still heard and felt the drilling though, but I don't remember getting numbed at all. I know I was in and out of it throughout the procedure and they said I started to move around violently. I thought I moved around slightly. All I remember is saying something about my hearing going bad, but I don't know why I said it. I was so fucking high. I don't kow if this is normal, but when he inserted the IV, I started to feel nauseous and almost threw up. He said it was my nerves, but I think it was a tiny part of the medicine before he gave me the full dose of the sedative (I thought that is what he said and when I heard "now give her the sedation full blast!"). Again, I was not there. He accidentally cut under my tongue with the drill, which has started to heal. Edited By: Hp GaL04 10/30/2009 1:16 PM. Edited 1 times.

But, I did have to take antibiotics for like a week before one of them since it was infected. The worst pain I ever had at the dentist was getting a tooth pooled. I cried.

Posts: 16375 (10/30/2009 1:16 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I've had 2 root canals years ago and one I wasn't put under and it was fine and one I was put under. I think from now on I'm paying the extra money to be put under. Seriously I was actually getting used to the dentist, but now, not so much.

I have to be completely knocked out for my tooth to be pulled. When I was 7 they had to pull a bunch of baby teeth that didn't come and to this day I remember the sound shudders. When my wisdom teeth were extracted I was totally knocked out, just like I like it. Well what I had was basically what you would have felt if you didn't take the antibiotics. A hot tooth is one in which the nerve is alive, but badly inflamed. The tooth is generally already very painful, especially to hot or cold stimuli. These are the ones that require multiple shots to get anesthetize. A vast majority of these will numb out with a few carpules of anesthesia administered in the normal way. A few, however, are so inflamed and acidic that the anesthesia cannot diffuse into the nerve fibers well enough to totally destroy the sensations generated by the nerve in the tooth. In these cases, we may resort to intrapulpal anesthesia. In this procedure, we will drill very quickly directly though the top of the tooth into the nerve chamber (a few seconds is generally sufficient time) and deliver a quick squirt of anesthesia directly into the nerve inside the tooth. It's fast, and always effective. or not

I had a huge hole in my tooth by that time. I will tell you the dentist, he was wonderful to me. I actually apologized to HIM when he was done.
