Hunting for sport is creepy. I don't have a problem if the meat is to be eaten.
I was thinking the same thing. Of course, my bf is from Lousiana and they apparently eat/ate something called nutra rat, so I was just
for a second and then I moved on.

I was shocked to find out that some of my great-grandparents and shit ate squirrel. I have never thought of squirrel as something you eat o-O

There probably isn't an animal or insect on this planet that someone hasn't eaten at some point in human history

Squirrel does not taste like chicken. Smells like it when you're cooking it in the crockpot, though.

To each their own.
It is a bit of population control and if they are eating the game they hunt...go for it. I don't like gamey food. So personally, NO. |

It bothers me, but it's not like my opinion will stop anyone. I just love to laugh at them for sitting in trees doused in deer or fox urine. One of my
attorneys is an avid hunter and he's currently growing out his goatee for hunting season. We make fun of him every chance we get.

I'm fine with hunting ONLY if whatever you kill is used for food. And really, what is the difference between eating meat from a cow, duck, deer, chicken, etc.? I know they taste different, but I'm talking about the principle of it. Why is it ok to eat meat from a cow and not a deer? |

For me, it is because I didn't hunt it down, kill it, gut it and chop it up. All I had to do was take the plastic wrapper off of it.

^But you don't have to do it, the SO is the one doing it right?
Before grocery stores most everyone hunted their own food. I dont see how it can be so "disgusting". Uncomfortable yeah maybe since it's not something most are used to but to say "I don't want it in my house" as if it's so very different from the meat you buy from the store (which probably involved a much harsher life/death) makes no sense to me. But to each his own. I'm my SO hunted or fished I wouldn't have a problem w/ it. Pick your battles is what I always say.

I would never hunt..but I really don't care if other people do. I do think it's amusing to see people go all out, but I guess for my hobbies I do the
same thing.
I'm definitely in the minority, but it doesn't really matter to me if they are hunting for food or sport. Especially with deer; since there are just so freakin' many around here. |

While I've never hunted (probably never will) and would strongly prefer not to get in a relationship with someone who does, I don't hold anything
against those who do choose to hunt. My cousin's husband hunts and has started taking his older kids with him (in fact, his oldest daughter just bagged her
first buck the other weekend), they'll often share the deer jerky they make with the extended family (which I was hesitant to try at first, but it's
actually pretty good).
My only issue with hunters comes from hunters that want nothing more than a head to mount on their wall and make no effort/have no desire to try and use any of the rest of the kill. My cousin's family I know use as much of the kill as they can and do their best not to waste anything. Also, as others have said, hunting can play an important part in population control. In many cases, I'd say it's more humane to allow hunters to thin some of the population (most hunters I know do all they can to make the kill as quick as possible so the animal doesn't suffer) than it is to have an over-sized herd painfully starve during the winter because there's not enough to eat. |
