Posts: 23340 (10/30/2009 3:26 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Family awarded $16.5 million for wrongful death in 'Hold Your Wee for a Wii' contest by Laura June posted Oct 30th 2009 at 2:29PM Way back in January of 2007, we reported on the Strange family, who were suing Sacramento radio station KDND-FM for the wrongful death of Jennifer Strange, who was found dead in her home after competing in a contest to try to win a Nintendo Wii. The contest -- "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" -- involved seeing who could drink the most water without urinating, and Jennifer, who did not win, left the studio and later died. Her autopsy later showed signs of water intoxication. Yesterday, a California jury ruled a wrongful death in the case, and ordered Entercom Sacramento LLC, a subsidiary of Philadelphia-based Entercom Communications Corp., to pay $16.5 million dollars to her family as a result of the actions of the radio station's employees.

Posts: 6121 (10/30/2009 3:37 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I find it to be a lot of money, but they were right to sue, the radio people were in the wrong and clearly did not research or have doctors present during the contest and did not respect safety rules. So if a dumbass who burns himself while drinking cofee can sue McDonalds and win millions, then this family should get a lot too.

They played clips of people who were calling in trying to warn the DJs. One lady was a nurse and told them the risks and they said something like "Oh well, we're not liable for anything cuz it's their choice to do this." or something to that effect. I think right after the lady died, the DJs were fired.
