Can someone explain to me how not to get lost on the subway? I look at the subway map and my head spins because I'm afraid I'll get lost, so I have
chickened out each time I attempt to ride. A coworker of mine got on the subway to head to Brooklyn and ended up in the Bronx and he couldn't find his
way back on the subway to the PABT so he took a cab.
Now DC.. the metro is easy to follow and not get lost. |

Ok, first you have to figure out where in the city you are going. Certain lines run only on certain sides of the city. You really need to study a map of all
the boroughs first before you can fully understand the subway. That is how I learned. For me it just took a lot of time and mistakes.

www.hopstop.com is a very good site for figuring out the transit system. Your co-worker wasn't paying attention when he got on the train. Uptown is the
Bronx, Downtown is Brooklyn. The numbers get higher when you go up the get lower when you go down.

Grab a map, read your signs and you should be fine. I never got lost. It's not rocket science, just several lines.

I second hopstop.com. It will tell you what line to get on. Your friend probably got on the right line, but going uptown instead of downtown, so you just have
to pay attention to that.

The subway made zero sense to me until I moved here. Now I could get myself pretty much anywhere in my sleep (and I have). Hopstop is a godsend.

Really? Did you have a bad experience? It really is a good way to go during rush hour.

Try Hop Stop. Its such a good site. And don't worry too much about getting lost. It's part of the charm of the city lol. If you find yourself lost just
ask the MTA guys or someone on the train. They are usually helpful.

Like someone else said, just use google maps. It gives you step by step directions how to get to the subway, where to get on, and where to get off.

LMFAO! It was mostly the "flashback" type fear that made it the worst, and the virus thing.
