LMAO @ "diabeetus." Y'all are silly.
And yes...I do care about this very much. My mom has type 2 diabetes and so does my grandma. I think it's definitely family history in my mom's case cause she's always taken good care of herself. |

Aw. I popped in to check my PMs and saw this. It made me smile. Thanks for bringing attention to it, Alf. It's frustrating how misinformed so many
are...even a lot of people IN the medical field don't seem to really understand how to manage diabetes.
I just wanted to add to the info in the first post that people don't realize how much diabetes effects every minute of your life. You have to be completely aware of everything you eat, especially if you're on insulin dosed by carb ratios. You can't just go out to a restaurant and order whatever looks good. You have to know what's in it and how to balance that with your meds. How many of you are popping a piece of leftover Halloween candy into your mouths a few times a day without thinking about it? We can't do that. We have to find the package that shows the total carbs or look it up online. Then we type 1s or insulin-dependent type 2s have to take insulin to cover it. If you're not lucky enough to be on a pump that means breaking out a syringe and vial of insulin and stabbing yourself just for one little piece of candy. Just something to think about. ETA: Food is far from the only thing that effects glucose levels. You have to know how exercise can effect you (normally it will help to lower your sugar but some people find it actually raises theirs and others find it depends on where their sugar is at when starting the exercise). Stress can wreak havoc on your control. Illness usually causes you to run higher. Weight fluctuations can cause problems. For women, your numbers will run differently during different times of your menstrual cycle and pregnancy will usually cause increase after increase in medication and/or insulin needs. There is almost nothing you can encounter that won't in some way effect your sugar.

Welcome! You know my feelings on this disease and I see how Dave struggles with it. It's not something to be taken lightly.

My mom has Type I diabetes. She would be happy to see the info on the "myths" - she hates it when people think that she can't eat sugar/carbs!

Thanks for posting this. My dad , and several of my family members have this disease. it's something ver yclose to my heart. One of my uncles went to the
hospital because of this a couple of months ago. I don't think a lot of people realize how serious of a disease this is.

My grandmother died from diabetes this month in the year of 2000, as well as a dear close friend of mine who was 17 at the time. One of my friends suffer with
it and I donate funds and appreciate the OP for posting this and making it stick. People don't realize the dangers and having to give yourself the shot, as
well as monitoring what you eat and even going into a coma and losing your life.
Thank you OP |
