i just don't understand. i'm not even going to get into it because most people here believe the same way when it comes to this. but i just don't
understand how it's "not right" for us to get married. or why people care so much to say no.

A lot of people here feel the same way? I thought it was the opposite.
I think they are afraid of things they don't understand. Or were told it was wrong. I mean, if you were told that something was wrong or "bad" since you were a kid, it carries over to adulthood and passed on to your kids (unfortunately). It is why prejudice will never end. I have no idea why so many people are against it. It is sad and doesn't make sense. Love is love and there isn't anything wrong with wanting to share your life with someone - regardless of gender. |

I went to college in Maine and it makes me sad to see this outcome. I will never understand how human beings can justify depriving other humans of their civil
rights. Never.

It is why prejudice will never end. I wouldn't say that at all. The generation gap on this issue is GINORMOUS. People under 30 overwhelmingly favor it, people over 60 overwhelmingly oppose it, and the people in between are...divided. Just have to keep telling ourselves that most of these bigots are old and they'll be gone soon. |

I think you'd be surprised how many young people are opposed to gay rights issues, the lakes slave.

There are definitely a lot of young people who are against it, but statistically (at least around here) a greater percentage of the voting public against it
are older. It seems so close so that if some of them would just hurry up and die the percentage would slip just in favor of it.

There's quite a few young people who are opposed yeah, but every major poll that's ever been done is pretty much what tls said. Young people are people
much in the YAY column when it comes to Gay/Equal Rights.

Young people who ARE opposed to gay marriage probably also have the sense to lie and pretend to be for it to avoid being yelled at by their peers. I feel like
there's probably a good number of closet bigots who quietly vote against equal rights.

I knew they wouldn't approve it. I don't know why people are so surprised.
The one thing I am really upset with Obama about is his not being for gay marriage. If people like him had their way, his own parents never would have been able to get married. I find it hard to believe that someone who have faced discrimination can do the same thing to another group. You can say that about a lot of people, not just Obama. Just because he's the president doesn't mean he has to be for gay marriage. He's entitled to have his opinions just like we all are. Also, even if he were for gay marriage, it doesn't mean that everyone else is gonna vote for it. |

I'm gutted. I expect this shit in Louisiana where interracial marriages are apparently still controversial, but I would hope that other areas would be more
progressive.
I know a married gay couple and there's nothing to fear. They're an ordinary middle-aged couple that just happens to be two people of the same sex. Perhaps it's time to start taxing churches. |

I just have one quick thing to say: I'm quite offended at all the people assuming that the all the 'bigotry and hate' is being passed down. we are
all individuals and at the end of the day we all make our choices, form our own beliefs, and do what we want for ourselves, no one else. the human race is
quite selfish in this way. I believe what I believe because of ME, no one else. I am far more conservative than my mother.

Logically, bigotry is passed down. Especially when parents REFUSE to teach/let their kids be taught tolerance. When parents don't teach that in a way, they
are passing bigotry and narrow-minded ideology down to their children.
You may be in the minority in learning stuff on your own but the majority of bigots learn shit from their parents/peers. There's no way to argue that down.

Shit like this makes me want to riot.
I'm really tired of this haves and have-nots bullshit that America is so infamously known for. When will we ever separate church and state? They were never supposed to be joined in the first fucking place! I'm so fucking angry and disappointed. I'm also embarrassed for America because so many other countries are probably laughing at us and our ignorance. Homer Simpson really is starting to be the correct caricature of the average American.
