This really sucks. It's like I'm being punished for having a job that doesn't offer insurance.
Exactly what GOOD is the Health Department?

I just called each and every single location in my county and all of them told me that they don't have physicians and they only do immunizations. So now I
have to wait until I have enough money to go to Urgent Care to find out what this lump is in my breast. And then I have to pray that they actually perform
those kinds of services!

I've never heard of a health department performing that kind of service.

Don't go to urgent care, go to a public hospital that will take care of some of the expenses or put you on a payment plan. And go now!

Not having insurance is really hard. You can get insurance on your own, not through your job. The last time I went to Urgent Care it cost around $200, not
including the medications I needed. Are you the one that said you woke up with a lump in your breast? I would wait and see if it's still there after a few
weeks.

I went to a health department-run women's clinic where you could get annual exams and BC, but that's the most generous health department I've ever
encountered.

Call Planned Parenthood - they sometimes have stuff for Women's Health.

I really wish I understood insurance better.
Someone explain to me please what the deductible/co-insurance/plan type means? |

deductible-- A specific dollar amount that your health insurance company may require that you pay out-of-pocket each year before your health insurance plan
begins to make payments for claims. Not all health insurance plans require a deductible. As a general rule (though there are many exceptions), HMO plans
typically do not require a deductible, while most Indemnity and PPO plans do.
Coinsurance --The amount that you are obligated to pay for covered medical services after you've satisfied any co-payment or deductible required by your health insurance plan. Coinsurance is typically expressed as a percentage of the charge or allowable charge for a service rendered by a healthcare provider. For example, if your insurance company covers 80% of the allowable charge for a specific service, you may be required to cover the remaining 20% as coinsurance. |

This might be a dumb question, but do you have a regular gyno doc?

Ok, this seems to be a decent plan, from what I can tell. Yea?

I don't have insurance. I go to the health department for yearly gyno exams, and sometimes I get my BC there. Most of the time though I go to my local after hours clinic for check-ups/maintenance medications (i.e. BC, allergy meds, acid reflux meds). It's $44.00 per visit, but the doctors there are really good about giving me plenty of refills. They're only open 4 days per week for 2 hours though, and their resources are limited. So if I get something acute (i.e. bronchitis or an upper
respiratory infection), then I go to the ER. I live near a Catholic hospital, and they're generous people. |
