Is there a list somewhere of the right healthy foods to eat? I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things this morning & EVERYTHING had "modified corn starch" or "HFCS"
Just watched Food, Inc. last night.

I haven't seen it yet but I just want to say that I'm eating yogurt as I read this so I looked at the label and now I hate you for making me not want
to finish it.

What bothers me too is how that HFCS is in almost everything in my pantry. Even if you eat similar things to what you had growing up - it now has HFCS in it. Give me back real sugar, dammit. |

I'm dumb; what is HFCS/modified corn starch and why don't I want it in my food?

It's on DVD now. I have it on my Netflix list and it's on a long wait BUT it's "coming soon" to Watch Instantly so I'll wait for
that.

OP, where do you live?
Try eatwild.com and search for your state. It will list local grass fed animal farms for you. Locavores.com also is a good research site and might be able to point you in the right direction. If you're interested in reading about the topic more trythe Food, Inc. companion book or The Omnivore's Delimma by Michael Pollan or Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver (my personal fav). There's also a book called Plenty but I forget who wrote it. All very interesting. I'm a bit obsessed with this topic. I'm in culinary school and it's my dream to one day do something with local, organic, humanely raised foods for schools, restaurants or whatever. I could talk about this stuff ALL DAY! |

My doctor always recommends following the Canada Food Guide. I'm sure the U.S. has someting similar. I just printed this off and taped on the inside of one
of my kitchen cupboards.

In reality, HFCS are terrible for your health in high doses, and has been linked to obesity and the development of type II diabetes. The problem is that it's pretty much replaced sugar in every aspect of prepared food, which leads to an over consumption of sorts. Of course, the food industry supports it, as the costs to import sugar from other countries is far more expensive than their profit margins would allow |

I was so overwhelmed after I saw that and felt like everything I ate was bad! I think now I'm just much more aware of where my food comes from. Any animal
product I buy is organic. My family is so annoyed by me checking the ingredient list on everything
Check out the Food Inc website. In addition to the books already mentioned, I like Marion Nestle's book What To Eat. |
