From your experience, what is protocol for giving holiday gifts for preschool teachers and assistants? My son has a 2 to 1 ratio in his class, so I am looking
at four people PLUS a main teacher. There isn't a ton of parent involvement so I don't think pulling resources together would really work. What have
you seen parents do in the past?

I never get anything from my students. Unless it's a mug from the dollar store. Last year I got a gift certificate to a local restaurant, and that's
the best thing I've ever received. I would recommend trying to find something cheap but nice.

Why don't you send in baked goods for all of them together?

let them select a sandwich from some place like Subway, get a liter of pop, a large bag of chips, and cookies for dessert and deliver their lunch one day
before the holiday break.

Homemade cookies and things are the best! I love the parents that send in little tins of homemade stuff for each teacher

anything you get will be greatly appreciated. when i taught, it really was nice to just be remembered at all--we got everything from a card with a heartfelt
thank you, to homemade baked goods, bath and body stuff, mall gift certificates, restaurant giftcards...

Oh I love it! Esp. since there always seems to be a chef or pastry chef in the classes I work in.

With my preschool class, a parent sent out a letter asking other parents to donate $5 gift cards to each teacher in our class throughout the day. She had us
write down our favorite places to eat and shop, and then I guess she'll compile that and send it out to the parents in time for the holidays. I feel weird
accepting anything in this economy, but it was really nice of that lady.
Anyway, maybe gift cards? Target is always a safe bet! And it doesn't have to be much. I'm sure they'll be appreciative of whatever it is you decide on. If they aren't, they suck. |

I agree with feeling a little bit odd getting homemade stuff from parents. I rather get something nice like a gift card or something.

I like getting cookies and stuff. I also love it when a parent brings in lunch for me one day.
Or a handwritten card is always a winner. I LOVE ornaments from my students - handmade or store-bought. Cause the next year when I put my tree up, I put the ornaments up and it reminds me of the kids! But my favorite, was a $100 bill tucked inside a card. |

At the preschool where I teach, the parents chip in and give each teacher money...we end up getting around $200 each! Also, some parents give gift cards to
places like Target, Gap, etc. Others just make a card with their preschooler to give to teachers.

it depends on the wealth of the community. I've had times where all I've gotten was a card, and that meant more than some of the repetitive body
wash/lotion/candle gift baskets.

Whatever you do, don't get bath and body works, candles, or mugs. It's a total waste of money because the majority of the time they don't get used
and get regifted.

Either a bag of candy like Lindt or a bag of coffee (here everyone give the Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks). Also gift cards to the local coffee shop go over
well.

I would go with gift cards or prepackaged cookies or candy. Teachers get mugs all the time. As for baked goods, some teachers throw them out because who knows
what the kitchen that they came from looks like.
